Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

What are you talking about, of course the season matters. If you have a NCAA tournament quality season, that is much more preferable to Lickliter type seasons that ISU had.

Now if you want to talk about what is better, having a 6 seed NCAA type season with first round loss over or a lower seed with a 1st round win, then year NCAA matters more to me. That is just a personal opinion, as I know ISU fans prefer conference tournament titles over NCAA wins, and that's cool for you guys.
Since the 1999-2000 season, Iowa State has 12 NCAA tournament victories compared to Iowa's 4 in that timeline. We also have 19 conference tournament wins compared to 17 conference tournament wins for Iowa (closer than I thought however Iowa has won 4 conference tournament games in the last 13 seasons).

So we actually prefer winning games in both tournaments.

Sorry. You were eliminated by the Florida A & M Rattlers.
We got beat by them - but it still is a fact that neither your team nor mine played in the NCAA tourney this year. BTW, when was the last time the Hoks were in a Sweet 16? How long since they won two consecutive Big 10 tourney games (I'm not even talking about making it to the C'ship)? I'll hang up and listen.

A basketball season isn't just the NCAA tournament. Last year was great watching Iowa basketball, so COVID didn't steal that. You on the other hand still have the turd of a season taste in your mouth, and it looks like another turd is heading your way again this season.
It WAS great watching the Hawks get beat at last place, 7-25 Nebraska, as well as getting pounded by 36 at 10th place Purdue. It was such a great season for the Hawks that they finished in a four way tie for 5th place.

I can understand your fascination with your great season and finally, after at least a decade, being significantly better than ISU. And, yes, ISU had a turd of a season for once when IA didn't. But your last second weekend of the NCAA's was 1999- ISU has three of them since (Elite 8, two Sweet 16's), your last conference tourney title was 2006 - ISU has four since then, your last regular season title was '79- ISU's was 2000. And since IA fans love to bring up Hampton and UAB, let me just say Toledo ('79 1st round- kind of tarnished that Big 10 title, didn't it?) and NWstern State ('06 1st round- 14 seed). The Hawks have had their early flameouts too.

ISU may be facing another "turd"of a season next year- time will tell- I prefer to let the games be played and see how it all shakes out. Keep enjoying your great season and looking forward to next. But, as the rest of the results show, you look kind of silly coming to a rival's board to puff your chest.

The only thing that looks silly is ISU fans pretending that they are still in the Fred Hoiberg glory years. Those days aren't coming back under Prhom, that is for sure.

Players still have to play, there are assistant coaches. Excuses are excuses. IF anything you'd think players would play even harder to support their coach.

@TrianglePlace you dislike the idea of players busting their ass to support their coach who is going through a hard time?

Phenomenal post

Fred made one Sweet 16, won two Big 12 tournaments, and put multiple guys in the NBA. Prohm has made one Sweet 16, won two Big 12 tournaments, and put multiple guys in the NBA. In 10 years, Fran has gotten close to the Sweet 16 one time, but still fell short. In 10 years Fran has won a grand total of 4 games in the Big 10 Tournament. In 10 years Fran has yet to put a guy capable of playing any sort of significant minutes into the NBA.

Two years ago, Iowa State did two things that have never ever ever been done under Fran McCaffery.. Won a conference tournament, and gotten a 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. So don't try to tell us the days are never coming back under Prohm. Stop living in last year's bubble and think that one bad year encompasses all.

Why don't you put some context behind Fred and Prohms time at ISU. What did Fred inherit? What did Prohm inherit? Did Fred build and advance the program from what he inherited to when he left? Has Prohm built upon the program that he inherited, where does it currently sit as compared to what he inherited?

Also quit pretending that Prhom had one bad year. If he has another bad year this year that is 3 bad years in the last 4 and he will be fired.

Oh Fred's better and I think most would agree with that. Prohm's obviously not been consistent. Prohm has a lot of work to do and hopefully he gets the opportunity because that means Iowa State will be good. My overall point is that Prohm is still a more accomplished coach than Fran. It's not even close to debatable.

Prhom did great with Fred's players, so kuddos for him being able to ride the Mayor's coat tails. If you think inheriting a top 7 team is great coaching then you and I differ on that opinion.

Prohm literally accomplished more in two years ago, with his own players, than Fran has ever accomplished. I alluded to it two posts ago.

Also, open your damn mind, go back and look at the seasons for Fran and Prohm. Don't look at just last years, or just the last two years, or just the last 3 years. Look at all of them.

I did some research and the Prohm implosion of the ISU basketball program is real. I was told if ISU could get Smith and Gach and have Harris becoming immediately eligible that ISU could possibly be a NCAA team. As it stand I'm guessing it is yet another year for ISU being left out of even the NIT.

Troll job is troll job.

You're really bad at this. He accomplished more than Fran ever has with his own guys just two years ago
