The players said the culture in the weight room needed to change. The vast majority said that there were racial inequities with Doyle and that needed to change.
Heck Kirk flat out asked the majority of them calling for change if he was the issue and they said no. The fact is you don’t know more than those players do. If the majority of them felt Kirk was the problem he would be gone right now along with Doyle.[/QUOTE]
Come on, players aren't idiots and can see what fans' reactions to players calling out even Doyle has been, and it's clear Iowa, the fans and state media are all in on the narrative that Kirk isn't going anywhere. You honestly think any current players are just going to come out and say, "Yes, I think you are the problem and need to be fired."
And please stop with this false narrative that players making accusations overwhelmingly support Kirk. Simply false.
A couple called for cleaning house, a majority have stayed silent. Then there are a few that have said Kirk needs to change the culture, and when asked say that they think he's capable of doing it. I'm sure there are a couple that made accusations that also think Kirk is THE right guy to lead this change, but I haven't seen any statements that strong. But I'm open to change my mind if there are some quotes from former players making accusations also stating that they believe that Kirk is definitively the guy to lead this change. Not that he's capable. Not that he should not necessarily be fired. But that he is the guy that should be in charge.
This has been all so predictable. Quickly spin the narrative to "Doyle is the problem" to enable the scapegoat. Kirk can then "take responsibility" with the "I knew nothing and did nothing wrong, and should not be punished, but as the leader of the program this is my responsibility" ********. Same playbook in the Everson/Satterfield case. "I'm not perfect, and I make mistakes. But how dare people question my character. I didn't do anything wrong, don't deserve any punishment, but as the leader of the program it's my responsibility."
Kirk has written the playbook for avoiding serious personal consequences for your actions while having all the morons in this state believe you are actually taking responsibility for your actions.
