Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

f*** cancer and everything that comes along with it.

Now that I got that out of the way. Fran's son getting cancer did not cause the Iowa team to lose 7 out of the last 8 games. Every loss but one was by 10 points or less, and the one that wasn't was by 13 to Tennessee in OT. Iowa just couldn't finish in the end.

I agree it didn't cause all 7 losses but it probably attributed to some.

You highlighting the number of close losses helps my argument.

It depends on how you look at it. I would think had Iowa been getting blown out, you could make the argument Fran's mind was in a different place. No doubt there are bigger things in the world, I just don't think you can blame it all on Patrick's condition. Doesn't help Fran's case that there were seasons that also had poor endings that can't be blamed on his son being diagnosed with cancer.

How many coaches have had a kid in middle school get diagnosed with cancer during the season?

Thats a pretty extreme situation.

Players still have to play, there are assistant coaches. Excuses are excuses. IF anything you'd think players would play even harder to support their coach.

Agree. Will Wade was suspended at LSU the last couple of regular season games, SEC tourney, and NCAA in '18-'19. They won the SEC regular season and went to the Sweet 16.

I did some research and the Prohm implosion of the ISU basketball program is real. I was told if ISU could get Smith and Gach and have Harris becoming immediately eligible that ISU could possibly be a NCAA team. As it stand I'm guessing it is yet another year for ISU being left out of even the NIT.

Probably so. I guess we will finally know how you hawkeye fans feel. I would say you might finally get to know what we ISU fan's feel like with back to back NCAA tournament appearances, but alas COVID robbed you of your extremely rare chance this past year. It's quite unfortunate seeing how after this coming year things look extremely bleak for the team, especially given the talent they've recruited. Yikes

More guys have become available since then. Still time to add to the roster.

A basketball season isn't just the NCAA tournament. Last year was great watching Iowa basketball, so COVID didn't steal that. You on the other hand still have the turd of a season taste in your mouth, and it looks like another turd is heading your way again this season.

If there was a year to have a garbage season, I'd take last year 100 times out of 100.

The entire season? You've told us here many times that all that matters is the NCAA tournament and that ISU's past seasons were failures because we didn't go far in it.

I got a good kick out of that one too.

The conference tournament narrative isn't difficult to debunk. Iowa hasn't made it past the quarterfinals since Alford left.

Sorry. You were eliminated by the Florida A & M Rattlers.
There were Iowa State fans arguing whether Prohm should be fired after winning 23 games, winning the Big 12 Tournament, and getting a 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa would've had to do something last year that hasn't been done since Fran took over in order to reach what some Iowa State fans called a disappointing year for us.

Thought I'd put that in perspective for you.

What are you talking about, of course the season matters. If you have a NCAA tournament quality season, that is much more preferable to Lickliter type seasons that ISU had.

Now if you want to talk about what is better, having a 6 seed NCAA type season with first round loss over or a lower seed with a 1st round win, then year NCAA matters more to me. That is just a personal opinion, as I know ISU fans prefer conference tournament titles over NCAA wins, and that's cool for you guys.
