Iowa Football Recruiting

Really, neither of them mean anything. Labas was a MAC commit with no P5 offers. Then, when he flips, with no additional film, no camps to evaluate, he's a 4 star? Same with the kid from Ida Grove. It comes down to iowa having a good history of evaluation. And honestly, ISU has a similar, but shorter history of that with Campbell. Kolar wasn't highly rated and he was an All-American last year. Purdy didn't have "respectable" offers until really late and he's one of the best returning QBs in the country this season.

Really, with no camps this summer to evaluate, ratings this year mean less than they probably ever had. It's on the staffs to evaluate based on game film. The ones that can do that effectively are going to have good classes, no matter what the ratings say.
agreed. well put

Same kid, but what I just posted is from this morning, so 247 either isn't being very clear or they don't know what's going on.

Unless there is a thread on the Texas board or something, the info from the recent article is exactly the same as it was earlier this week - Thompson was very upset about this stuff initially, but Iowa is still very much in the mix.

Hoks, convince me...

A super athletic, top 150 4 star recruit with offers to every SEC school except Miss State and Arkansas wants to get an offer from your program; however, You hold off on offering him until it's practically too late.

Convince me how that is smart recruiting strategy...

Yeah they messed up with this one, but I still don’t think they would have landed Trigg. I wonder if they wanted him to visit campus first to prove that he was really interested.

This means they don't feel good about Fidone. Thought they were in a really good spot at one time. Doesn't sound like that's the case anymore. Trigg and Helm are our next options. Pretty simple.

Helm right now is the only option.

"yea, but Hok will just steal Moore away from you"

Hok already passed on Moore. He gave them an ultimatum and they told him no. If they took the time to evaluate and debate about Moore, I doubt they will change their minds without more camps and film.

Trigg would always be a hard one to get, but you gotta throw your offer in the ring so that the recruit knows you're serious. Otherwise, they will move on from you.

Even if Hok was a lock to get Fidone, why not try to get Trigg as well. They both can play WR and TE.

No, no. When a kid is an iowa commit, high ratings can mean a lot and offers only matter if they have a bunch of them. An ISU commit MUST have multiple respectable offers to be worth a crap.
Ah my mistake. The goal posts are moved so often that I constantly mess up. Thanks for info

Moore would have committed on the spot with an Iowa offer. The staff most likely gave him some line about wanting to see senior film and still having the chance to earn an offer prior to Signing Day. It buys them time to go after better TE prospects while keeping Moore warm. The staff is still contacting him regularly.

I've been told Moore is 100% with ISU. Iowa will have to look elsewhere if they miss on the two studs they just offered.

Contact him all you want... they stiffed him when he told them to make a decision.

Unlike their fanbase, Hok is not a program to flip flop on their judgments. They are not the kind of guy who gets a divorce and quickly hits up the hometown sweetheart that is still waiting for them.

But in this case, the sweetheart has moved on, too.
