Best and Worst Fans

Oklahoma was a mixed bag a couple of years ago. When they jumped out to a lead, the fans were arrogant and obnoxious. When we won, they were gracious and welcoming.

I've been to K-State for a basketball game. That was the most hostile atmosphere I've seen as far as getting yelled at for simply being from Iowa State.

It's hard to count Iowa because that game is just not indicative of real life interactions. The people who go to that game aren't the people that you'll meet on a standard day at JTS or Kinnick. That said, I've only been treated poorly once at Kinnick, and it wasn't a big deal. Otherwise, it's been your standard friendly ribbing.

I know we rag on them a lot, but personally, the best opposing team fan interactions I’ve ever had were West Virginia fans.

Went to Morgantown for the ass kicking they gave us in basketball. On the way in to the stadium, they were talking about how much they liked our team, how awesome it was to see us take over Kansas City for the Big 12 tournament, etc.

Really good people, in my experience. And actually knowledgeable.

WVs fans are alright, other than when they're defending the garbage that is huggyball.

It's the program that gets the most hate. Just seemed to be generally classless between huggy and holgersons teams.

Worst visiting fans I can recall were NDSU.

Visited Stillwater in the mid-2000s for football and they were great to us. Of course, they kicked our asses.

My wife and I went to Stillwater the year after the huge Friday night upset. They were some oof the most gracious fans I've ever seen.

I went to Norman 2 years ago when we beat OU. Their fans were very complimentary as well and I got a lot of congrats after the game. In fact the only **** I ran into all day was wearing Hawkeye gear.

Worst: Wisconsin fans. Had friends get attacked verbally and physically up there. Nebraska fans always suck too.
Best: I hate to admit it but ISU fans are really nice at games with a few bad apples like every team. The few Indiana fans I know are pretty cool as are Rutgers fans.

First off, odd thread bump. Secondly, I may be bias but I’m pretty shocked you had a bad experience with badger fans. I’m my experience they are a lot like ISU fans, happy to show just about anybody a good time...unless you’re some gd hawk fan.

Went to College Station a few years back for A&M/LSU game. The whole experience was just odd. No one was unfriendly, but I never felt comfortable. Sonething was just "off". There was a definite "cult" feeling to it. The next day I visited some family in Dallas, and I was asked about the game. My cousin's son (2nd cousin I guess) was a recent A&M grad and he said this, "If you are from A&M, you can't explain it. If you are not from A&M, you will never understand it". Weird explanation, but accurate.

Am I the only one that's never had a bad fan experience or do people exaggerate the petty trash talk?

The only bad experience I've ever had was in Iowa City in 1998. They were a little sour. Had some full beers thrown at us on the street, had to run like hell from a fight later that night. Zero provocation on either.

Aside from that, none that I recall. A single idiot here and there, but lots of fun to be had all over.

From the Sconnie games I've been to, Ive had a good time. Students show up late to the game but haven't been bad from what I recall.

the students show up late due to ridiculous seating policies. You have to enter in a single file line (which takes forever for everyone to get in), they pack you in like sardines, and you aren’t really allowed to leave the student section. Zero incentive for getting to the stadium early.

edit: also since they fill the student section this way a row is at 100% capacity before they move to the next. Makes students more dense and highlights the late arrivals. End rant

Ugh, UNLV, hands down. I happened to be in Vegas when we played there in 2008, so I snagged some tickets. Absolute garbage desert people. I saw at least 3 fights in the stands and had trash thrown at us throughout the game. I expect some ribbing and back and forth, but there was very little of that. After losing in OT, several different UNLV fans try to fight me as we walked out - no provocation, just “hey, you wanna go” and out their hands up. WTF? No, sorry, I don’t just randomly fight fans of opposing fan bases.

I’d love to catch a game in person, and the game there next year is probably my best chance to make it to one in the foreseeable future, but there’s zero chance I’d subject myself to that again.

Iowa fans all suck. Never have pleasant experiences around them. They are trash at Kinnick and trash when they come to Ames. Last 2 games at JTS in 2017 Iowa fans were spitting their tobacco at Iowa State fans over the top row of the upper deck. Security had to come and stop them. They were threatened to be kicked out. Also in 2019 Iowa fans were trying to start a fight with random Cyclone fans in front of me.

Honestly, the 2 times I’ve gone to Lawrence for basketball games, the diehards with season tickets were very pleasant to talk to and not arrogant. Different from randomfan44 at least.

Texas fans that sat next to me at last years game were cool.

KSU fans in Manhattan were pretty nice overall, but some were douchey after we lost on the last play of the game when the refs handed them the win.

Baylor’s fan was a jerk to me.

A@M fans offered me food and beer since I road with the team from the hotel. Super nice people

OU was good for the most part except for one Jackwad who was yelling at us in the sidelines the whole game. He had to win tickets from a radio station

Texas fans were nice but kept telling us they were going to kill us in the game. Then we kicked the crap out of them and they kept telling us nice game. It was one of CPR’s “so proud” games.

Minny fans can be real ******** but really only up there. There were some nice guys that sat behind my dad and I when we were playing them this year. Real complimentary of Iowa.

Eh, we have some ********. But I also don't think we're close to the worst fans. If we're just going anecdotally, I'm on the college football subreddit and a lot of Iowa fans have good feelings towards Wisconsin and Wisconsin fans

Best: Oklahoma fans were pretty nice when we went there for the insight bowl in 2011.
Worst: The University of Spoiled Children blows. Super condescending and a bunch of arrogant ********.

Sorry to jump ship to another sport, but Cubs fans in Wrigley are ruthless. Terrible experience for my St. Louis Cardinals fan wife. Friendly confines my ***

South side White sox fans were great for this twins fan here. Mostly because we were both terrible at the time, but had great experiences at Guaranteed rate, plus they serve true Chicago hot dogs unlike the North side.
