Kirk Ferentz getting sued for being racist

I read that this morning. Absolutely was horrible to read. The disgusting part IMO was seeing all the people on twitter call Rob a piece of trash and that he wrote that to fit his narrative. What narrative does that dude even have right now against the hawks lol? Just the amount of people calling DJK a piece of garbage and a liar, it was sickening.

But now that this came out, it sort of makes you wonder if something was going on with AJE and maybe that's why he didn't play every snap his sophomore year.

DJK does seem kind of messed up.

From what I have read, I think it is and guys like Johnson and Daniels that were some of the first to speak out support him and still praise him.
Yes those players are still fully supportive of him, however Kirk's seat is not ice cold right now. That's just what I'm being told. They're trying to get more information and being that this is one of the hottest topics in sports right now, Iowa has to be very careful with how they handle this.

I have no idea if what he says is true or untrue. I will say in reading what he prepared I found it odd he led with "Ohio State was recruiting me." Just kind of an odd way to set the scene for what he was getting ready to say. Get the impression he's pretty high on himself.

Yeah that makes sense.

I remember seeing an interview with him several years ago and he referred to himself in the third person the whole time.

I do think DJK thinks highly of himself, but I read that as he was setting the stage of why he believed he was initially mistreated the moment he walked through the doors there. He thought him being a highly touted recruit led KF and Doyle to believe he was spoiled and "born with a silver spoon in his mouth".

Right. Doyle and Ferentz wanted players to conform to the Iowa football culture, which is a culture that just so happens to frown upon a lot of the things that young black men consider important to their culture like their music, clothes, tattoos, etc.
It reminds me of the dress code the NBA put in place to specifically target Allen iverson

No Nintendo or allowance for two weeks!!!!

That's it... I'm running away...

Even if so, even if DJK was an entitled full-of-himself ass... the brute force methods KF and CD used to try to pop his ego were outdated and vindictive.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

By the way, I found an absolute DOOZY of a take on Twitter by an Iowa fan..

"Was Iowa football at a competitive disadvantage because of racism? Did Iowa leave any wins on the field?"

How many times have you heard Iowa fans questioning
"why didn't our best guys play?"
"why does so-and-so start over the other guy?"
"why didn't we give/throw the ball more to X?"

To some extent that is every team everywhere, but maybe Kirk's iron fist approach is part of those answers? Even if not racism per se, but just being vindictive and vengeful? If the fanbase starts to think that then watch out.

You make some good points!

Pat Forde does a good job summarizing what I'm seeing (sorry if this has been shared already):

I especially thought this line was good:

A college athletic program cannot become a time capsule. It cannot become an ongoing shrine to its leader—even the good ones. It is perilous to let a coach build his own echo chamber, surrounded by the same faces and voices for two decades.
Made me think of our CBF

From the outside it appears there has started to be a shift inside the program with all the newer younger and minority coaches the last couple of years. Wouldn't be surprised at all if guys like Bell and Copeland told guys that they should speak up when they had the chance. I am guessing KF didn't know everything that Doyle did but had heard some things but was blinded by his friendship with him. So instead of correcting him and making things better he just acted like it wasn't happening. I also believe there are a lot of people of a certain age that don't understand joking like that is not ok. I have a lot of people like that in my family that I constantly have to say things too. I think it was on Golic the other day where he said that Doyle was operating with 1970s software. I thought that was perfect.

An interesting thing to come of this so far though is that it appears to have really united the team and the former players that have spoken out. And as far as I know they are the first team to say they are going to kneel during the anthem this fall in college football.

Side note: I never understood why anyone would want BF as the next head coach there. Seems like a complete ******* and now we know he is. I think someone like Bell would be a much better choice.
1970s software was Punch Cards, so makes sense.

This. DJK was far from perfect by he's the victim here

If anyone recalls when Steve Deace was on KXNO, but he said multiple times something along these lines. When he started covering Hawkeye/Cyclones he went to IC and the good 'ol boy culture was really pervasive. No one reporter ever dared to ask the Head Iowa Football coach a tough question. No one dared asked for anything other than what Fry/Ferentz spouted. Never. As a reporter in IC your job was to turn on the tape recorder sit back and admire the HC. One of the reasons he began cheering for ISU is because ISU was very open and honest with reporters (with the few that paid any attention to ISU at the time).
