Kirk Ferentz getting sued for being racist

Sounds like George Kittle's dad Bruce released a timely article two days ago, not saying it's about anybody in particular....sorry if already posted.

-here's some excerpts

And by the way - YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN - IT WAS AND IS YOUR JOB TO KNOW. Racism and discrimination are not new topics. These are not new to anyone who has been paying attention over the past 40 years. These are not realities that anyone is even debating at this point in history. It is real and has been real for a long time and we all know that. MAYBE things were just going too well sitting at the top. MAYBE no one was saying anything, no one was complaining, no donor making a fuss or MAYBE profits and outcomes were fine so why look any closer to the behavior of some of your own people. MAYBE. And so it was easy to act like you didn’t understand, that you did not know, or maybe if you were seeing these things, MAYBE you didn’t think they were wrong and truly believed that they were not racist or discriminatory. MAYBE.

But with your great power (and big bucks) comes GREAT RESPONSITBILITY AND GREAT ACCOUNTABILITY and if you failed in that responsibility consistently over time, then I ask you, what does it mean now to be accountable for that failure? What are you going to do now other than say you are sorry, appoint a committee to review it, and promise to listen better? Yes, I thank you for being willing to listen now, when the media and entire world is watching, when statements about what was going on within YOUR organization are coming from everywhere, when people that were victimized by the culture of your organization are coming forward to speak their truth. But honestly it feels more than just a bit hallow and late. And help me here please. Help me understand that you really had no indications of any of this before? You never heard any stories or complaints from anyone? You never saw it or thought those things were racist? Really?
I knew I liked Kittle. Now I know where he got some of his morals from. This is pretty big imo.

With all of these accounts, and what was brought to light by DJK, I think it would've been EXTREMELY difficult to show any sort of support that went against any of the coach's wishes. KF was threatening his player's futures. I know you're probably not blaming those guys for not speaking up, but I just can't see how that was a viable option at the time. That's why the discussion right now is so important.

I'm talking about during the ten year reunion. The players future was already done and they didn't really have anything to lose except maybe KKKirk's love and allowance of them back into the facilities.

I understand why they didn't while they were at Iowa.

This poll is pretty telling. If Iowa keeps Kirk, fan support might take a pretty good hit. He already wasn’t hugely popular over there.

Eh, people always over-gripe and end up not being as angry later on. I know I have almost canceled my tix 5 times about this or that and always came back lol.

I would bet the actual decline is 10% or less.

I'm guessing Kirk is happy he lifted the Twitter ban. I'm guessing he wouldn't have pre-approved this one

I'm not even going to try and read the tens of pages of thread just since yesterday but assume the HN feature with DJK has been posted and discussed.

That...is a damning article of old Kirk. Wow.

Yeah I get what you're saying. Looking back I still think it would've been tough for them to speak up before now. I'm not saying these things would never have been talked about by these individuals, but the timing of this makes sense. An Iowa player called out the program, ie: Kirk, for not speaking up publicly and likely not speaking to the team privately about the issues in our society right now regarding race. When that player spoke up, other players started to speak up and created this domino effect that has brought us to this point now. I think due to the racial discussions happening right now on the global level, guys felt a lot more comfortable bringing up their accounts while at Iowa.

So did they take the DJK story down or is it just DoS because of traffic at the website. HN won't even load right now.

But he didn't go to Glenville, he went to St. Edward's so saying Glenville (an inner city school) is implying that he is from the ghetto.

The ESPN article claims that Morrow is from Glenville, which is a neighborhood in the Cleveland area. It’s not just a school.

Well not saying anything could quite honestly be the worst possible thing to do.. Kirk and co. are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

And then you have dozens of other former players wondering why their stories didnt get an immediate response like DJK's did.

Once the review is done I am sure the allegations in Howe's article will be addressed and Howe will probably be the one to ask KF about DJK's comments. Responding to one complaint now and not commenting on all of them is not the right way to handle it, in my opinion.

You really love to go out of your way to pick out the stupidest things to argue about don't you?

Given that KF and the program have a s*** ton of allegations to respond to, I agree they have to be very careful during this time.
