Iowa Football Recruiting

Okay so after doing some research about SP+ Top-40 defenses as they pertain to both ISU and Iowa, both Iowa State and Iowa played 6 SP+ Top-40 defenses.

Iowa: Iowa State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and USC

Iowa State: Iowa, Baylor, OU, Oklahoma State, Texas, Notre Dame

Goodson
Iowa State - 3 carries, 16 yds
Michigan - 6 carries, 15 yds
Penn State - 8 carries, 35 yds
Wisconsin - 5 carries, 26 yds
Minnesota - 13 carries, 94 yds, 1 TD
USC - 18 carries, 48 yds, 1 TD

ypc: 4.42

Hall
Iowa - 1 carry, 0 yds
Baylor - DNP
OU - 18 carries, 110 yards
Oklahoma State - 18 carries, 76 yds, 2 TD
Texas - 24 carries, 101 yds
Notre Dame - 17 carries, 55 yds

ypc: 4.38

So, assuming these numbers are correct, and I'll post my reference link, you're saying that because Goodson averaged .04 more yards per carry than Hall against better defenses, he's therefore overall better? From my standpoint looking at these numbers, Goodson is a specialty back who's used in certain situations but can't be relied upon to carry the ball very much. The best running back on Iowa is rarely getting the ball against good teams.. Could be a variety of reasons for that but that's just the truth.

Looks like Benji is getting a new user name

Great research. The only issue I have with it is Iowa fans here try and claim that Hall racked up a ton of yards against garbage teams. Which okay if that's the hill you wanna die on, then fine. But by their account, if Goodson is equal too (per the rational Iowa posters) or MUCH better than Hall (the irrational Iowa posters, aka @Legend Hawk and Benji otherwise known as @Brodie0) then when Goodson played garbage teams he too should have racked up similar or much better numbers against garbage teams. But he didn't. So what does that mean? Not really sure cause we have one data sample. All i think it means is what you declared above, I think Goodson is a specialty back. If you extrapolate the data he probably won't carry 20-25 times a game and average 4-6 yards a carry. His data also shows that he is very much a chunk yardage back at this point. He will get 1-3 yards all game then have one great run where he bust it for a long one. But again, all this is off one data set. Next year could show different

Just like the “real all-american” Mike Warren. CyTwins was sure Warren was so much better than Akron Wadley as well.
Question for you, Jeff. Why do you spend your entire day on your schools rival website? You joined CF April 23rd and have posted 851 times, and counting, in 34 days. That’s just over25 posts a day. And you say you also post on Hawkeye forums? Do you spend your entire day pounding your keyboard behind a random username?

I like the troll angle but you guys don't want us to get Smith lol

Why? Grad transfer, that should get Prohm to the bubble and get him more time as the head coach at ISU. No way in this pandemic world does Jamie fire Prohm if he is a bubble NCAA team.

1 decent season? I guess the other 8-5 season wasn't decent enough for you huh. But I love how you think that an Iowa football recruiting thread, on an Iowa state fan page mind you, was started by Iowa State fans. Really shows how clueless you are. Remind me again, who is the individual on their rivals fan page commenting on multiple threads throughout the day again?

If you are counting 8-5 as a decent football season then how do you say, earlier in this thread, that Iowa basketball has only had 1 decent season in 10+ years?

Dont you consider making the Round of 32 at least a decent season in basketball?

You're going to be really happy when you find out how wrong you are on Wisconsin. I mean, it could happen, but everything I've been told is that he is Campbell's to lose. You're more pessimistic than my wife was on our wedding day.

You might have heard him refereed to as the GOAT, but yes, the QB Coach that has place yet another gunslinger into the NFL. Guy is a stud.
Lol, nice. But nah, I'm just realistic. Bollers will do great at Wisconsin.

Hmmm...can't say i've ever heard anyone say that before. But pretty cool he got another seven round guy picked. Hopefully now that Stanley is in the league he will have a QB coach that works on his mechanics for the first time ever. Maybe they can fix that issue of him sailing WR's!

Iowa has had decent seasons 5 of the last 7 years in basketball. ISU has had decent seasons in football 3 times in the last 41 years.

LOL, ok ISU has had "2 decent seasons" in the last 19 years and 3 over the last 41 years. Does averaging less than 1 decent season per every 10 years over the last 40 years quality ISU fans to talk about football then?
Moving the goal post. Typical

Yeah we could spend time cherry picking data all we want to try and warp the argument to fit either side's narrative. I spent 20 minutes of my morning sifting through stats to find out Goodson averaged .04 more ypc against top-40 defenses. The stats do not lie, he was slightly better, but I don't know if that stat alone is good enough to base my entire argument off of. But it's not my argument so oh well.
