Okay so after doing some research about SP+ Top-40 defenses as they pertain to both ISU and Iowa, both Iowa State and Iowa played 6 SP+ Top-40 defenses.
Iowa: Iowa State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and USC
Iowa State: Iowa, Baylor, OU, Oklahoma State, Texas, Notre Dame
Goodson
Iowa State - 3 carries, 16 yds
Michigan - 6 carries, 15 yds
Penn State - 8 carries, 35 yds
Wisconsin - 5 carries, 26 yds
Minnesota - 13 carries, 94 yds, 1 TD
USC - 18 carries, 48 yds, 1 TD
ypc: 4.42
Hall
Iowa - 1 carry, 0 yds
Baylor - DNP
OU - 18 carries, 110 yards
Oklahoma State - 18 carries, 76 yds, 2 TD
Texas - 24 carries, 101 yds
Notre Dame - 17 carries, 55 yds
ypc: 4.38
So, assuming these numbers are correct, and I'll post my reference link, you're saying that because Goodson averaged .04 more yards per carry than Hall against better defenses, he's therefore overall better? From my standpoint looking at these numbers, Goodson is a specialty back who's used in certain situations but can't be relied upon to carry the ball very much. The best running back on Iowa is rarely getting the ball against good teams.. Could be a variety of reasons for that but that's just the truth.
