Iowa Football Recruiting

One play, nope AJ ran past him continuously.
This isn't really true. ISU had a great gameplan that day.
1) Attack Iowa's #5 CB
2) Moving pocket away from AJ
3) Cut blocks by the tackle with RB help
4) Fast rhythmic passes

They were decently successful with this strategy, but Iowa adjusted fairly well and the score showed that. One of the memorable times they went away from this is when they were taking shots in Iowa's endzone and the left AJ one on one, he got good pressure and Purdy had to sail it over the WR that OJ was covering in the endzone. Their tackle did play him really well in the run game IMO.

You can still watch the game if you want. The first half has a ton of examples of the moving pocket and quick throws away from him.

Wait wait wait. You can't be insinuating that Campbell spent time gameplanning for the Hawks and AJE? We've been hearing for months that the game really didn't matter much to him at all.

If you guys even had a decent DE opposite of Epenesa you could have competed for the West IMO

I linked the video below on one of the series that stood out
1st down - AJ bull rushes, gets deep, run blitz picks up the back
2nd down - AJ rushes and beats the tackle, Purdy dumps to avoid the sack
3rd down - double team that turned into a triple team. Should have been pick. ISU going after our #5 CB again on the play

He did create some good pressure, like the one below on a double team. But they definitely were successful in staying away from him.

And the one I mentioned previously on the endzone shot.

Actually this is a better vid that focuses on AJE getting doubled and run away from most of the game...

If they didn't double team him it was because they were either running or rolling out the other way, or letting him come in and trying to throw a screen over his head.

At one point in the video the commentator makes the comment that ISU was doing a good job of keeping two guys on Epenesa.

Nice, didn't know about this one. Minnesota probably should have taken a few notes from this.

It was a smart gameplan by MC. Baffling why some ISU fans try so hard to convince us that their coach isn't smart. Of course you're going to gameplan around an All-American DE.

Yeah, not real surprising it gets repeated though. One person says it, knowing its not true, others pick up on it and repeat it after seeing the stat line, and the legend gets born. If most of their fans are like me, they don't always go back and rewatch games closely that they lose. I often am not sober during the game (shockingly enough) and miss a lot of the small matchups I want to see.

This isn't a thread for analysis.

ISU whole game plan focused on stopping AJ, which was smart. Heck even your coach called him a generational player, so I get why he did that.
