Iowa Football Recruiting

They don't have much of an argument, as I use Sagarin SOS as well. That is one of the BSC Bowl metrics after all, but the fact remains that the majority of them say Iowa's SOS was tougher (even with ISU getting a significant SOS bump by playing Iowa).
Sagarin is the only legitimate SOS provider. But you already knew this.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Bruce can bring to the table. I also want to see what Stephens can do with Doyle. The dude is already a freaking monster in the weight room and give him time with Doyle and he’ll probably break some weight room records
Bruce? Yikes.

247 says 3. Best being a guy who was a very partial season starter as a senior.

I'm not sure who you are counting. Doering would be 1, I forgot about Larson that would be 2. I'd bet the guy you are counting as #3 was rating 4* by Rivals is my guess.

Either way this is probably why KF avoids 5* kids, and goes for 3* and 4* kids mostly. ;)

If the state could produce a 5 star lineman I am sure Campbell would be willing to do Kirk a solid and take him in Ames.

Early 247 rankings are weird, didn't realize it put Larsen at a 5*. He was a big bust. Forgot about Richardson being a 5*, dude was a stud and a big part of why Iowa won the 2009 Orange Bowl. Guy was playing quite a bit as a freshman, was hurt most of sophomore year, and all of his junior year and missed like 1/3 of his senior year. Caught a lot of bad breaks, but was super talented. Would have been drafted if he could have stayed healthy.

Iowa could certainly have use Purdy! I will go on record and say I like Stanley for his leadership and game manager mentality, but Purdy is in the mold of Drew Tate and I want that more. Especially in the way the QB position is turning into. Purdy will be a round 2-4 pick depending on this next year and if he has a big year and goes pro could go round 1. Once he wins the big games and takes ISU to 9-10 wins he is gone. He is a great QB but needs to just not be timid and play with some more swagger. I really like his game. I think Petras/ Padilla/ and Hogan are a step up in moxy from Stanley. I like the consistency from Nate, but that PSU game @ PSU is a memory I will never forget. And he could never beat Wisky like he needed to. He will be a good backup QB in the NFL but will never be a starter.

Honest question. Do you wish Stanley had the redshirt rule like they have now so he wouldn't have had to burn his redshirt as a freshman or are you ready to start fresh this year?

It is so tough to find video on him. I have only basically seen clips.
Yea that's the real downside. I'm pretty much just going off his physical traits. He could be a massive bust, but having tools you can't develop (aka size) is always a good start

I am ready to start fresh. Nate was a good QB and a winner, but he had 2 really decent games in my memory (OSU, USC) and was a game manager the rest of the way. I want someone new. I think Petras has the perfect set up to excel. I think Hogan wants to play and will push and Padilla is not slouch either. I honestly am just excited. Stanley was a fine QB but not my favorite one to watch.

ISU played 7 bowl eligible teams going 1-6 vs them, while playing 3 top 15 teams. Iowa played 8 bowl eligible teams and 3 top 15 teams. The majority of BCS bowl SOS metric say Iowa played a tougher SOS. How in the world do you think you could win 3 more games while playing more bowl eligible teams and a tougher SOS?

Campbell is proving to be a very, very good coach for them in the imaginary games.
