Iowa Football Recruiting

Yes, all of those guys except Downing were borderline P5 recruits. You’re making my point for me. If you think Iowa State is going to be able to consistently take an entire class full of guys like that (other than maybe 1-3 guys per class that are highly sought after by other Top 25-ish programs) and turn them into high level P5 performers, best of luck. It’s entirely possible, but it’s going to be really difficult.
The rest of those players most definitely were not “borderline P5 players” and it is a really bad take to claim otherwise.

Just to be clear.

You are arguing that ISU cannot consistently win with classes in the 40’s and 50’s (which they have done 3 years in a row without any signs ahead of regression).

What a weird hill to die on. You want it to happen so badly that it is clearly clouding your judgement.

Well it's Benji. If Costco shrimp can't take him out, nothing can.

Newell, Peterson, Knipfel, Vance, Porter, Miller and Dekkers were borderline P5 recruits lol

so does Iowa. But yet you think we should obsess over missing out on Bollers while you miss out on the whole top 10. Laughable.

Bollers is a legacy recruit. If Iowa State didn't make the final 6 for Allen Lazard it would have been a huge deal

What's laughable is when a recruit chooses ISU over IOWA and all the hawkeye posters on this board then claim that IOWA never really wanted him or that his offer wasn't committable, or that he isn't that good, or that IOWA wasn't interested anymore, etc. etc. etc. Never willing to admit that ISU won a recruiting battle with the ever powerful IOWA HAWKEYES. THAT is what is laughable.

It was apparent before he named the top 6 that Iowa wasn't going to be in it and had already moved on. I have no idea the reason but I would assume there was one.

Get a grip. I didn't say that. The point is that Hawkeyes came to terms with the fact that Bollers wasn't coming and moved on. CyTwins in CyTwins fashion keeps beating the dead horse. You can't win em all and you move on.

Wow, Cooper DeJean got a massive ratings bump from 247 - they moved him up to a Top 150 player nationally, and he is now a composite 4* recruit.

It's been well published that Iowa walked away from Bollers. (Read: "T.J Bollers Unsure Where He Stands WIth Iowa Football Program" by Tyler Devine).

Bollers stated that he was "confused by the lack of communication and that he is waiting to see if Iowa reestablishes a steady line of communication."

He also is quoted stating the following: "there are other places that are putting in effort to come and see me and make it to my basketball games instead of saying they would and never coming."

The reasons why Iowa walked away are unclear and only speculative but it is a certainty that Iowa moved on before TJ did.

Second to perhaps only offensive line, defensive end is more than in good shape for the next few years. In 2020, they got Deontae Craig, who had offers from OSU, ND and Mich.

They have a current top 100 player in Graves committed to 2022. Yahya Black was rated as a 90 grade, 4 star by 247 and Bowie is a high three star.

Bollers would have been a nice luxury to have, he's certainly not a can't miss prospect given the incoming position depth. He's also probably correct that he's a better fit for a 3-4 OLB.
