You keep acting like places can’t be shut down now. Emergency proclamations are very far reaching. If you would actually reach out to someone your employer could get in trouble already. They probably wouldn’t go to jail but they shouldn’t. They would likely be told to let these people work from home and if needed they would put whatever new proclamation that they need to enforce it.

I'm not talking about my employer. I was more talking about how we're literally not enforcing social distancing in communities. Some places are taking it upon themselves to shut down city parks / tape them off. They did that because folks were not listening to our governor's "recommendations". It's no different than Reynolds not actually enforcing that schools shut down. She let schools decide that on their own. She "recommended" schools keep closed until the 30th. Des Moines schools have already called it off for the year.

She doesn't want to make the tough decisions and doesn't want to get her hands dirty.

The debate is over. Kim stands in defiance of the US surgeon general, Dr. Fauci, her own board of medicine, and every public official in the worst-hit areas of the state.

Such a weird hill for people to die on to keep insisting there's no difference when there obviously is, even if none of us knows what it is - like a purely personal or political reason.

And now that some light has been shed on her inept "metrics" it looks even worse.

She needs to just lay down and get it done today before the weekend.

Call it recommendations or actually shutting it down. You can bet that if a school tried to open up they would be shut down. I don’t like her but people are acting like we aren’t doing the same damn thing that other states are doing.

I will be critical of her response after this is over because I don’t think she’s handled the messaging well. At the same time I will be critical of people who get stuck on words and people who want to overreact. This isn’t a partisan issue and we’ve freaking made it into one over words.

My town did it the day they announced the schools would be pausing. Happened during their spring break. Had nothing to do with the governor, it was our mayor doing his routine stuff.

Messaging is one of the most important things during a time like this. The best leaders out there are usually the ones with the strongest message. Being passive is one of the worst ways to attack anything, let alone how you should attack a global pandemic response.

It's not just messaging though. It's her overall process of this situation. Reacting to daily totals, talking around the main points of a question or not even answering it, the initial criteria / model she determined was the best way to make her decisions, etc.

As I've said before, I don't care what she calls her order. Right now, it looks stupid not to just name this thing a stay at home order to get people off of her back, and then use her "dial up/ dial down" mitigation process throughout the rest of this thing. I will not be happy if she ends up doing nothing more after inevitably gives in to putting a name on this mandate though.

IA numbers vs. MN numbers based on the google analytics. MN had a SIP starting march 25th. Iowa now has about 150 more active cases than MN (585 vs 436). They also have enforceable fines if violated I believe. Interpret the data how you like, but it seems like it makes a considerable difference. To me threading the needle on this thing is very dangerous, because once you miss you are in a world of trouble.

Like I said she’s being stupid for not just calling it what people want. The point I’m trying to get across though if she’s being stupid for just not calling it that you are being stupid for demanding that she just call it that.

The debate absolutely can’t remain what something is called. The debate needs to move back to what the actual restrictions are. That is what actually matters and what will save lives. This debate over what we call it is a distraction that is going to cost lives.

I completely agree. The post above this one actually shows some good data for SIP in Minnesota and what we currently are doing in Iowa.

I think shutting down bars/restaurants was a tough decision.

'Isolate if you are sick'.

People don't know if they are sick.

Why not 'assume you are sick, everyone outside of your home that you come into contact with is sick, and isolate'.

Actually I listened to her press conference yesterday and when she is talking about isolating she is very specifically talking about isolating within the home from everyone else in your home when you are sick. That was very clear, and also very important if you are sick.

Only go out if necessary. Practice social distancing when you are out even among your neighbors. If you are sick isolate yourself in your home from your family. It was very clear. There is nothing wrong with this advice and is what most states are advising or ordering.
