Okay, which brings me back to what I just said... what exactly are they waiting for that at least 76% of the rest of the country (per @Clonefan32) didn't see a reason to hold off on?

There is 150+ pages of debate on whether or not an SIP actually means anything. I'd guess the debate falls along those lines.

As I've said 100 times now, do the SIP. I don't care. I'm all for it. But be reasonable about it's practical impact. Read the orders that exist. Every business that is currently operating will have at least some claim to being essential.

It's a difference without a distinction.

Which again leads to another point I asked... if a SIP doesn't functionally do anything different than now, but being without one makes us look like idiots compared to everyone else, why aren't we just doing it to improve our optics? What is the downside of that? What is the upside of not SIP'ing?

In a difference of a vast supermajority to a near-complete takeover? No, not really. That's not meaningful whatsoever in this context. Why would it be?
It's also not misleading.. 45 states have some sort of SIP mandated, whether that be in multiple counties or statewide. 38 states have statewide mandates for a SIP.

FYI for anyone interested, I made a Costco run today. *Plenty* of toilet paper when I was there. Out of stock: hand soap, sanitizer, Clorox wipes, and a couple other coronavirus-related products I can't recall. There was a whiteboard detailing all this on the way in.

Strangely, they were also out of a few food staples...like shredded cheese, regular (non-organic) eggs, and peanut butter, among others. And it's not as if they appeared to be sold out, there wasn't even shelf space for them. I haven't kept up on what products are having supply issues so those surprised me.

Starting tomorrow Costco is only letting two people in per membership. And they're limiting the number of people in the store. If they're over capacity, you wait in line until someone leaves. Maybe that isn't news but I hadn't been there in weeks.

And again, I'm for doing it. But even what you've just said seems to denote it's just words. We are doing it for "optics", which is fine, but wont be much of a practical impact.

If we want to be a part of the 38-45 states that are doing it just to say we are then go for it.

She doesn't want to give in.

It's totally misleading in the way you've used those numbers up until now. But whatever. I see your point now.

You can maybe argue that a state-level, governor-mandated SIP may convince a few more lay people around to stay in more often than they currently are, if they are at all. Probably wouldn't effect businesses much, but it would continually help the awareness around this event and maybe convince some people to keep staying home more often. However, optics still helps too -- any little bit helps at this point. Looking smart is still better than looking stupid, even if the actual work underneath is similar.

Some of you clearly didn't get the "If Tommy jumps off a bridge would you do it too" lesson from your parents as a kid...

(Sarcasm)

I'm pretty sure I've stated "some sort of SIP" when discussing the 45 other states. Whether you were overlooking that or reading it as something else, I don't know. I wouldn't have brought up the other 12 states earlier if I didn't know what I was talking about before.

If there was a train coming on that bridge I'd jump too. Right now we're just hoping and praying the train runs out of steam or changes directions before it hits us.

Why don't Polk and Johnson counties just go ahead and declare a SIP now anyway? Is the governor really going to sue them to block it right now? Even if she did this thing will be past its peak before the courts settle things.

Is the governor dumb enough to believe that schools will be open again on April 30th?

Why not just announce now that they will not be open again this year? Anyone with half a brain knows schools won’t be open again this school year.

. If you cannot see that the eastern part of the state is a hot spot, I don't know what to tell you. It has over 40% of the total cases in Iowa.
Next time you may want to watch the speech. I heard them talk a couple of times about eastern Iowa being a larger hot spot.

I do watch the speeches, she said they are using their data and metrics to try and figure out the hot spots and see whether or not they need to issue more mandates for those areas. How can you look at those areas and think they don't need different measures taken? They realize the eastern side is worse, but it must not be bad enough in their eyes to change anything. Once it starts getting worse, you're already setting yourself up for failure.

To bad Fred didn’t win, ridiculous, vote her out. Now is not the time to dig your heels in my gosh.

She's making all of her decisions as the data and metrics keep changing. She doesn't want to think about the future, only what the numbers directly in front of her tell her.
