Coronavirus Coronavirus: In-Iowa General Discussion (Not Limited)

I wonder if a lot of that testing is contact tracing people who were in contact with known corona virus carriers or travelers in corona virus areas.

Yeah, we don't need to test literally everyone, but we do need to be testing anyone with symptoms, and anyone who's had contact with known carriers. Yes, that will result in more negative tests, but the ones we do catch enable us to get those people identified and quarantined to stop their spread. We'll never catch all cases obviously, but it slows the spread.

If you can work from home absolutely do it. Not suggesting we shouldn’t. At the same time though in order for you to get that food grocery stores need to stay open. Trucks need to remain running to supply those stores. Warehouse workers need to keep working to load those trucks. That type of stuff keeps repeating down the supply chain.

Even stuff as simple as office supplies need to keep working so that people are able to keep working.

My main point is even the minor stuff that we can all survive without for a while is at some point necessary for a mentally healthy population. I don’t think we can stay like we are for multiple months. I am naturally a person who stays at home most of the time so I frankly haven’t had to make many changes other than not going to the grocery store as often. Even I as someone naturally inclined to stay inside and isolated needs some societal interaction to stay mentally healthy. Maybe I can survive a month or two without that but at some point even I need it.

its only been a week. You keep jumping to months and seem to want it to end because it might end up being months.

take it a week at a time.

It's really ticking me off to no end that there are idiots out there that went on their normal spring break trips and were in close contact with hundreds of other people, and then they come back to Iowa.

I know of a family that went to Cancun last Tuesday and haven't come back yet. IMO, they shouldn't even be allowed back unless they sit in confinement for 24 hours somewhere first.

It would need to be way longer than 24 hours.

Change 24 hours to 2 weeks, and I agree.

It would be interesting to know how many of the total cases require hospitalization vs. how many are self-quarantined.

I would guess a lot of them require care because Kim tells us not to bother getting tested if we have mild symptoms.

I wonder if we know the same people. I'm not sure if the people I know ended up going, but they were planning on it.

One balance/challenge for Governor Reynolds will hit in about 2 weeks. Planting season will go full bore. Going to be impossible to have businesses limited to 10 total people then. Most employees will be limited to contact with just a few and not much physical contact will be required so social distancing will be fine. It will be a juggling act for sure though.

Probably because that’s the same message the CDC is providing? Mild symptoms should not warrant a test; stay home and recover unless you are high risk.

So true. The people who are trying to spin political bias in this are pretty bad. No official is wanting anything bad to happen and it’s hitting people with no regards to party affiliations.
