I was at Hy-Vee in Ames at like 11pm the day before they changed their hours, the amount of things they sitting out waiting to restock was unbelievable. I'm sure they need the extra hours just to get it close to done every night.
I dont buy #1\#2 when just a few weeks ago they were open 24 hours. So they were already on shortened hours from what they'd done for as long as i can remember. If they need more time to clean, use that time from midnight to open to do additional cleaning. Closing at 8 just makes the stores a crowded mess, which will do more to spread illness.
Its been that way since they changed from being 24 hours. That's not a result of COVID19, that's a result of hyvee no longer keeping the store open after midnight.
Have you been to the stores lately? The shelves are empty, they're restocking damn near everything. This was probably 40 pallets full of different foods throughout the entire store.
Yes. And im saying i went to the hyvee at about 11pm days after they switched to midnight close, well before the virus panic hit, and the aisles were full of pallets as well, making it damn near impossible to shop.
If you're so convinced they are incompetent, doing a horrible job, and making things worse then go to another store.
Anyone hear anything about how contagious the can redemption machines are ? Seems as if that would be a pretty brutal zone with it crushing and spraying stuff everywhere.
Half the time I give mine to someone who seems homeless and/or has mental issues. Not that I wish that on them or anyone else obviously. Just seems if it's a higher risk area maybe it should be mentioned in the social distancing plan.

What’s everyone’s opinion on Daycares? Are your still sending your kid(s) Daycare?
We were able to make this week work and keep our kid at home. But it is not sustainable for the X number of weeks.

my daycare is closed and for whatever reason most of the parents are teachers or have office jobs so they can work from home. not ideal but most are managing it
Hy Vee here in Papillion was fairly well stocked at 6 PM...only items completely out were TP and the various disinfecting products. Still had stocks of paper products.
My brother in law works at a bank in Arizona. At another branch in the same town (not his), a man came in, made a deposit, then told the staff that he had just tested positive for Covid-19, but wanted to make one last deposit before his quarantine started.
They aren't sure if he was being serious or not, but because of the zero-tolerance policy, now that branch has to close for 10 days (mandatory). I sure hope Iowans are smarter about things than that guy.

Fareway is Ames had plenty of everything yesterday except milk, eggs and paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex).
Well I just heard at work this morning there is a supplier we are getting some materials from, who had someone with all of the symptoms come to work and worked a full day. He stayed home today, told his employer what was going on, but he was also working with around 20 other people. The employer is not allowing any of the other employees to go home unless they have symptoms. And we're receiving materials from them today.
I assume this is happening at a lot of other places.. I've also heard plenty of cases where people are showing symptoms but are told they cannot be tested because their symptoms aren't severe enough. Some businesses aren't allowing them to stay home unless they use vacation or sick days, and if you have those used up at this point or aren't given any, you have to come in.
Daycares should be limited to children of essential employees (Nurses, grocery, police, ect). Employers need to understand that children will be at home as parents may still be working. With younger children, that may require shifting hours.

Well we decided to keep our toddler home this week and then last night got notice they were closing nationwide for the next six weeks.
Some may stay open for healthcare worker's, researchers, etc. But I guess this week trial is going to be a long term thing now.
Waukee Fareway was the same yesterday. We also tried finding a time for HyVee pick up and it was full. I drove past HyVee in Waukee and it was a circus. Fareway was little busier than a normal weekday. Bread isle was pretty low. Zero ground beef or really any chicken. No paper stuff (TP, paper towels, etc.).
