Especially when you consider that Vince McMahon, likely one of the most selfish people on the planet, is moving Wrestlemania from a football stadium that would have been full of people to a tiny indoor venue where there will be no fans. If Vinnie Mac is making more humane decisions than you, it's probably time to take a good hard look in the mirror.
Not to mention Prairie Meadows closing, along with other Vegas casinos. When casino's close, you know its bad.

Let’s not kid ourselves. If Vince was anywhere close to the cutoff high risk age he’d be going forward.

Yep and young people will go there in droves as a 'break' from all of this supper annoying pandemic stuff.

Saw an article about how some 'influencer' was doing a 'COVD19 Challenge' or something by licking an airplane toilet. The hope is they get something far worse.
If he calls for medical care I'd just tell him, "Take 2 Tide Pods and call me in the morning."

How are people doing this without child care? I’m lucky for the simple fact that my wife’s job didn’t pay for two children in daycare and we’ve made it work before this mess. I can’t imagine what folks are doing where that’s not the case.

Walmart and Hy-Vee in Ames looked like the aftermath of a battle, Walmart had even less than Hy-vee. Basically no meat available at either unless you were looking for chicken feet.

From what I’ve heard from friends Ames is awful. Fareway in Polk City had pretty much everything but noodles, TP, paper towels and 85+ % ground beef.

Interesting, thankfully I convinced my wife that we need to go last week and stock up on meats and stuff but it was a little disconcerting to see everything empty. I wonder what they'll look like in the morning, how much of it will get restocked.

The run on food is the silliest thing in all of this. Unless the local governments are prepared to provide food to the citizens they are not going to shut down grocery stores and their supply chains.
If you have to self quarantine you need food in the house I guess

Most people have several weeks worth of food already in their house and some people are loading up like they won't be able to get groceries for a month. Even in the worst areas in Italy people have access to grocery stores.

Its not surprising though. Have you seen how much people stock up for a couple inches of snow?

My wife and I stocked up, we eat out most nights so we most certainly didn’t have several weeks worth of food laying around. Not sure your experience is indicative of reality, but who knows.

We obviously have very different realities. I would say eating out most nights is not typical. I go to the grocery store every week and buy meals for the week plus just have food around in addition to that. My evidence is anecdotal, but I would say most people live this way in central Iowa at least.

And yet you indicated several weeks of food? Given the problems restaurants are having, I’d say at least some people were eating out.

so what’s your explanation for it, dumb panicking people in central Iowa who have weeks worth of food and are just piling on?

Yeah, I go to the store every week to buy food plus another week or so of food around the house. Sorry, didnt mean to make you defensive about hoarding. You do you.

We typically have over 2 months worth of food in our house. Always making room in freezer and reorganizing pantry to jam something in.

It is ridiculous that there is such a run on food. Luckily for me everything is business as usual. Only problem I have is finding water so I don't have to drink this nasty North Carolina tap water.

I guess I don't see the point in critisizing people for stocking up on food. It's one thing to hoard excessively, but if the whole point of social distancing is to avoid human contact, why not get enough groceries for several weeks to avoid frequent trips to the grocery?

Why is it silly to maximize the food you get while you are out, so you can stay home and isolate longer without needing food again?

Also if this keeps spreading and getting nasty, the supply chain will be impacted at some point.

You’re not wrong, but this also demonstrates the idea of unintended consequences. People stocking up on food to practice social distancing means plenty of people spending more time traveling all over metros looking for food and tp. Before implementing or requiring the quarantine or social distancing they should have worked with stores to prevent the runs on necessary items
