Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Obviously Prohm is a better coach than Fran. Iowa fans don't even like Fran

Prohm is a better recruiter, but I think Fran is a better coach. I think I would actually rather have a better recruiter than actual coach when it comes to college bball. Obviously, having both skills would be ideal.

I'm not here to rag on Fran right now I think he's doing his best job he's ever done as a head coach, but I think using this year as the year in which to judge the coaches would be unfair all things considered.

You're seriously equating losing Patrick McCaffery to losing Xavier Foster? Lol

Also, PM and Nunge didn't have any significant playing time this year and their team has succeeded very well without them. Assuming them being out is the reason they're going to lose to Maryland would be ridiculous.

Sure, both are 4* players. Nunge got hurt early and was playing over 17 MPG.

Recruiting is part of coaching. Fran has never been to the Sweet 16 and hes in his 60s. Lol the list of major college coaches he's better than is probably non existent

You know what I'm saying. Fran is a better actual coach and Prohm is a better recruiter. Kind of like how Dr. Tom was a better coach and Raveling was a better recruiter.

Yes now Kriener's minutes are diminishing and the 4 guard lineup that Iowa has done well with would not be used as much either. I just think losing those guys has maybe been a blessing in disguise and has forced Fran into not playing as many guys.

And although Patrick and Xavier have the same amount of stars, Xavier is a higher recruit with a larger upside. Also, Patrick physically was not going to be ready to play on a nightly basis. That's not a shot at him either as he's obviously had a tough road to where he's been and is probably a bit behind in certain areas. My point was that losing Patrick was not going to be the achilles heal for Iowa. Losing him was not going to be the downfall of the Hawkeyes this year.

Iowa won this year. Iowa is a better basketball team than Iowa State this year and it's not close. But, throwing the statistic that Fran is 1-4 in Hilton isn't exactly "owning" Twins lol. It took Iowa having a pretty darn good team and Iowa State having a terrible team for that to happen. But in the end, congrats on ending the streak.

But he said Fran would never win in Hilton, not go 1-4 in Hilton. So he was wrong again.

Fran has dominated Prohm in 3 of their 5 matchups. Prohm has squeaked out 2 wins against Iowa.

Fran was a couple of epic choke jobs from winning 6 out of the last 8 in the series. Still can't believe they lost in 2013 and 2015.
To Fran's credit, he wasn't the one missing the FT, the game winners, turning the ball over, or getting the 5 second violations. Now, they were his players, but his players didn't really help him out much in those games.

Fran has been at Iowa for 10 years. He has a couple of second round exits and wins against Iowa State as his best accomplishments. Congratulations.

Prohm has been at ISU for 5 seasons and has only beat Fran twice. You rip on Fran but he has Steve's number.

Prohm hasnt won an NCAA tourney game without Fred's guys.

And LOL if you think beating ISU is one of his "best accomplishments".

Yep, the teams before Bohannon would always choke it seemed. They were decent to good teams, but they weren't clutch at all.

Fran and Iowa have won some big games in the last 10 years but look at how Bohannon talks about beating Iowa State. He literally left his shoes on our damn court. I don't think he's going to do that at Wisconsin next year.. And you absolutely love bringing that up about Prohm.. So Fran has what.. 3 NCAA tournament wins out of 10 years with his own guys?

I do think this Iowa team feels a bit different. These guys seem more mentally tough than Fran's past teams.

Also what would be his best accomplishments then? Recruiting classes? Nope. Having a winning record against his rival? Nope. Winning a conference tournament? Not even close. Putting guys into the NBA? Nope. Making it to the second weekend in the NCAA Tournament? Nope.

One of his best accomplishments has 100% been winning at Hilton this year. It's something that hadn't been done in 18 years at Iowa.
