Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Had this conversation with my friend last night. If Bill Self was coaching this team would they push for the NCAA? I’m having a hard time. Just a month ago Chris Williams wrote an article for his New Years hopes, and one of them was for Prohm to get this team to the tourney. Then we lost to Florida A&M the next day.

I think it’s conceivable that with a top 10 coach this team would be a bubble ish team. Thoughts?
I think the talents there.....7 assists as a team is what stands out to me....too much isolation type stuff on offense. Just a round peg offense with square players.

When you're one of only two guys who can actually score at the moment the #1 team in the country can make things pretty difficult on you

So you're saying the other team had a gameplan to try limiting the impact of your best player? Interesting.

It is more about the jimmies and the joes than it is about the X's and the O's. In college bball you need players. Look at Roy Williams this year. He is finding it out that it is very hard to compete when you don't have a talent advantage.

I agree, but I don’t think it’s a all that hard to make the tournament. If you go through our games we should really be 12-8. Oregon state, AM, and TCU would be wins with a competent coach. That alone would have us in bubble conversation.

God I turned on the Wazzu vs ASU game last night when I got home. Both had about that record and there was zero people there. ESPNs cameras had to make sure the cameras didn't go out past the second row.

He's pretty much a slightly less efficient Wieskamp. His job is to get buckets not assists just like Joe

Bolton is a combo guard, as I noticed they had Bolton handling the ball a lot. He is averaging 2.6 turnover per game, you can't have that out of your ball handlers. Wieskamp is a wing SF type. He has to help out rebounding and he is outstanding at that getting 6.3 Rebounds per game. Also Wieskamp is a good defender, and Bolton is a horrible defender. Sure Bolton is a bucket getter, but he pretty bad at literally everything else. Wieskamp on the other had can get buckets, he can defend, and he can rebound.

Bolton's turnover percentage is better than half of your team
