Bolton averages more ppg. If that makes him better, so be it. You claim Connor is a terrible shooter and defender. He rates as a better 3 point shooter and better defender than Bolton. He doesn't take 12 shots a game to average 15 pts. He shoots 6 times a game to average just over 7 pts. He is also 2nd in the country in asts/turnover ratio. (3.6 / 0.8). Bolton has a 2.9/2.2 asts to turnover ratio. It's about efficiency which is why I said you can keep Bolton. We all knew coming in Joe T needed to improve his outside shot...no surprise there. You want to claim he is a turnover machine, well he averages 2.7 asts to 1.9 turnovers. Not good but not terrible either. Iowa has played very efficiently with the guys they have.

...isn't that the practically same rate?

Connor should have a better AST/TO rate, being a PG. Bolton isn't our main PG (frankly, I don't know what exactly to position him as. He plays everything from 1-3 at different times). Bolton also gains a few TOs by the amount of dribble-drives he gets, it's not necessarily from poor distribution. These drives generate a ton of points for him and give him a defined role on the team, but occasionally he'll lose some on the way too. It happens.

For reference, Bart Torvik has slight leads to Bolton in both points above replacement and EFG%/TS%. It's worth noting that his 3pt% is steadily rising as well, after being in a massively-bad hole for much of the season. Shooting 50% there through the last 4 games (we'll see how sustainable that proves to be soon).

It is similar but neither rate is very good. The difference is Bolton's supposed strength is scoring, but he's not doing it very efficiently. Connor's strength is not so much scoring but he is doing it just as efficiently as Bolton. Connor does everything else better according to advanced analytics and now he is shooting a respectable 34% from 3 which is enough to keep teams honest.

Connor only takes wide open shots is what Hawkeye fans have told me on here so you're really comparing him to a bucket getter making difficult shots?

Right.....because Bolton doesn't get a lot of open looks from 3

I would actually say a lot of the 3's Connor takes are probably more difficult because they are end of shot clock situations. Very rarely do you see him take a 3 with more than 10 secs on the shot clock. He passes up a lot of open looks for better shots....efficient

I'm aware he only takes open shots. I've been told it many times on here

Thats not true.

Connor is often stuck with the ball when the shot clock winds down. My only complaint with Wieskamp is he looks to get the ball out of his hands in that situation. I would rather Wieskamp keep the ball and try and create or shoot the difficult 3 than giving it up to Connor.

Lol Iowa fans were saying Bolton was a chicken and Connor "knows his role is to only take wide open shots"

Hate to say it, but basically a coach on the floor type. He knows his limitations and maximizes what he can do. He has played well so far. Lets see if he can keep it up in the best conference in the nation.

So looking at the box score from last night and I'm wondering what is going on with Haliburton? I mean it is basketball, so there will be some down games, but so far in conference play Haliburton is only averaging 12 PPG and 3.3 turnovers per game. He is shooting 37% from the field and against the two best teams in the Big12 he had 6 and 5 points respectively. Any possibly injury concerns?

The only injury I know of is his wrist, which will probably nag him all year.

Baylor took away the PnR game from him more or less. I mean he also had 8 rebounds and 9 assists

The two games he's played poorly against have been two of the best teams in the nation and they're also two of the best defensive teams as well. They've done a great job of taking away the things that he's really good at and have forced him into shooting deep threes which he hasn't been making.

I think it’s probably mostly due to when you play the high level teams, with the support cast playing the way they are, they can focus entirely on stopping you and have some success. Don’t worry though, Iowa won’t have to play any teams that good.
