NFL: Is Tom Brady done?

Is he done in New England? Maybe.

The best thing he and the Pats can do is work it out on a year to year or two year deal. I think he still has a little left in the tank but it would be damn hard for him to start over somewhere else. As for the Pats, I realize he'll be 43 when the season starts next year but who can they get who would definitely be better? I'd run it back one more time and wring out every last bit of the era that I could.
You mean did it really affect him or his performance? No. Which makes him all the more stupid for doing it in the first place. The Pats have spent the last two decades seeking every possible little edge, sometimes to a fault.
Being done with something and still waiting to play in the game to begin with are two different things.

He was just behind Kyler Murray and Jameis Winston.
He was just ahead of Daniel Jones and Baker Mayfield.
I think those four guys are either in the, "Too early to tell but not looking great so far," or the "Trending towards a bust" phase as young quarterbacks.
I would imagine it is only downhill from there for Brady.
It might be time to hang it up or find a team with a good defense needing a game manager (with limited arm strength) to nurse them to victories.
Sort of like what Manning did with Denver and its defense.

At this stage in his career I agree the wheels could come off at any time. But I think this last season was more due to a total lack of help on offense. I'm no Brady fan but if I'm being fair he had virtually no help from a bad o-line and a subpar group of receivers. He still throws the ball pretty well; not like Manning at the end when he was throwing all wobblers and ducks.
Of course they lost Gronk midseason and replaced him with no one.
These are fair critiques, but Gronk isn't coming back and New England has historically prioritized its draft and cap capital towards the defense. Brady has rarely had above average offensive lines or backfield/receiver talent to help him.
I lived in Boston for a year in the pre-podcast era, so I got to listen to lots of WEEI. The fact Belichick depends on Brady to make it work with whatever scraps on offense while investing in defense is just part of the philosophy of that franchise.
That is probably not about to change.
I could see the Patriots going another direction, because it sounded like he no longer wants to give them the hometown discount. The Patriots are not in the business of paying super star salaries. They never have been.

To be fair, they made a couple of moves to bring in good receivers, they both had baggage but it seemed to be a pretty big priority to get TB quality WRs the last couple of years. If their receiving corp is Gronk, AB, Gordon and Edelman this season is probably much different. With that said, I don't see them paying Brady AND the 2 or 3 new offensive weapons he would need.
They definitely try to bring in help for Brady -- but like I said, they are often scrounging in the scrap heap for bargains. They do not have the cap money or the draft picks to do more than try a buy-low, high-upside play and hope it pays off for them.
That was how they ended up with even Randy Moss, after all.
Brady, coaching talent, and the culture in New England has made them exceptionally successful at dumpster diving and finding productivity at a discount compared to other franchises, but they do not have room for error here.
That is probably not going to work this time. They need real, solid contributors now, and that requires money or high draft picks they do not have. Making a play for Antonio Brown on the cheap makes sense when he costs you little and might return to form and, if not, Brady can make something happen with whatever else you can find.
Brady is probably past that point in his career.
I think he can play a few mores years at NE and be an average QB.
If he goes somewhere else in a new system at this point in his career he will struggle greatly.

If he wants to keep playing, it needs to be with the Pats. I'm not saying that because I like the Pats. I'm saying it because he knows their system so well, and they know him so well, that it can mask his decline. Him playing somewhere else, and I feel like he's going to stick out like a sore thumb
