Weather Thread - Jan 10 & Jan 11

This I will defend. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think dismissals for heat happen much less frequently now that more buildings have AC. But having grown up in schools without it (and I'm not even that old) it was miserable and it reeked. You aren't going to learn anything in that environment.

As for cold, last winter it got so cold a couple days that buses wouldn't start. That alone pretty much seals the deal.

None of the schools I attended had AC. Two a day football practices started the same week of school so we would have a 2 hour practice in that AM and then go sit in a hot school all day. It was absolutely miserable and the afternoon practice would just blow.

A couple things to clear up as someone working at a school that released early.

I had a Superintendent one time that was a real hard ass on dismissal's until one day a light dusting turned into freezing rain at 7:30 AM. Two staff members fell and broke bones. Multiple students fell and were seriously injured. When I slid into my parking spot I saw kids crawling on the street to get to the grass on the other side, it was that slick.

Heat, I don't got much because we have AC. Cold however is often because busses won't start. The diesel gels up, or so I am told. Also, just because you are a caring rational parent, doesn't mean everyone else is. Treating exposure problems on a 6 year old is heart breaking, and yet it happens often.

I still can't get over schools dismissing because it's too hot or too cold. WTF? Next we'll hear, "The kids need to go home, it's too windy."

Just the opposite. They make them hunker down and take cover when it's too windy (tornados).

i didnt even buy a brand new one, just got one and i wanna use it and be like fk u neighbors check out coach hines over here while you shovel. peasant. ;)

Gotta love buying a snowblower for the 2-3 times a year you may need it and having the ******* not fire up when you try to start it.

I was ranting last year because I kept seeing high school kids at the bus stop in nothing more than a hoody when it was below zero outside. I thought it was the reason we were closing school for nothing more than cold. But then my daughter started HS this year and I started giving her crap about not wearing a coat on cold days. She informed me that they were issued lockers so small that they can barely fit their backpacks in, to say nothing of trying to get a winter coat in there as well. Effing Minnesota and they don't have a place for the kids to put a winter coat?

I have yet to confirm this at the school just what the teenager told me.

My daughters have lockers big enough for a coat, but the dumb asses won’t wear one no matter how much we tell them too. Teenagers are dumb, Brother.

Tried to find this with the Hindenburg image but not readily available. Too lazy to make my own Meme

I'm glad I'm not the only parent who think their teenager is dumb. My 16yo wears shorts to school everyday, because "I'll be inside all day dad" Same kid is wrapped in a blanket by the fireplace at home though.
