Well, I checked Sagarin, because in all honesty, I cannot see how the Iowa State schedule could be viewed as the 5th toughest in the nation. You were wrong. It's actually #4 today. Now I'm really confused. Cyclones are WAY higher on Sagarin than anywhere else, but there has to be some sort of metrics behind it. Not sure it means anything, but I guess it's a positive.
Not an expert on Sagarin but those rankings factor in SOS. So ISU playing the #4 schedule according to Sagarin bumps them up in his rankings.
It also helps that almost all of ISU's losses were by 1 possession, I would think.
1-6 vs the top 30. Ouch. It was a tough schedule but you should've done better. Iowa 3-3, Texas 3-4, Baylor 4-3. Who do you blame for your disappointing season other than the refs? Coaches, players, recruiting, special teams, all of the above?
I included all of the above. Most teams have at least one glaring issue tho. Iowa's was the Guard position for most of the season. I also think some scheme adjustment in the running game is needed and KF pretty much admitted that.
If you're looking for a weakness, I think it's painfully obvious ISU's Oline was the #1 issue.
Cornerback play a distant #2.
Outside looking in, I think teams have adjusted and game planned much better to your defense. The other obvious one to me would be special teams.
Sagarin is the only SOS metric that had ISU regular season schedule tougher than Iowa's, and is the only one that had ISU as even a top 20 SOS I believe.
Sagarin rankings are a joke, even @CyTwins will tell you that, so their SOS is then based on a joke.
Ok I think play calling sucked, and special teams was far from adequate minus Assally.
