All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

Your highest rated recruit of CMC first class was a offensive lineman Sean Foster.

Kirk Ferentz came in and in 4 years had an amazing offensive lineman with very unheralded guys, TE recruits and players nobody wanted. You can always develop what you have, and making excuses in year 4 is just that, excuses.

Kirk Ferentz replaced the greatest coach in school history. Campbell replaced Paul Rhoads. To act like they walked into similar situations is asinine

I think your defense is spot on, wouldnt change one pick.

Offense is tough because you have a few WR's on each team that have an argument for one of the spots. I think you add an All Purpose spot and put ISM there and that opens it up for 2 other WR's.

Sleep-Dalton averaged over a yard better on his punts than Rivera. I cant find more detailed snaps for punters though (net average, inside the 20, touchbacks, etc.) so that could change based on those other stats.

Howard Jones and Evy would have something to say about that. I think Evy is the best coach in Iowa history as he won a national title and two Rose Bowls. Jones coached back to back undefeated seasons. So Fry might be the third best coach in Iowa history.

Earl Bruce is ISU's best coach and McCarney is ISU's second best coach. I would say Rhoads is the third best coach.

So each Campbell and Ferentz both replaced the third best coach in school history.

Hayden left Ferentz with a bare cabinet, especially at OL. Ferentz did an amazing job building that up to what it became in his 4th season.

He was trolling on offense and you agreed with him. Lol

Matt Campbell and Kirk Ferentz did not have remotely similar situations when taking over the programs. Kirk took over for the greatest coach in Iowa history at a historical program. Campbell took over one of the worst programs in the nation.

Also, you can say Kirk did well those three seasons but then he must not have developed talent well the next three seasons right, right? I mean he won 7 games, 6 games, and 6 games the next three years. How could that happen after three double digit win seasons in a row and it being Kirks 6th, 7th, and 8th seasons as the head coach?

Iowa is a cyclical program, always has been always will be. The nice thing is that under Ferentz the down years are typically 7 win seasons. Yeah he did have two non bowl years after he turned it around, but otherwise always at least a bowl team.

And that is literally what Matt Campbell has done at Iowa State. Our down year (this year) was 7 wins.

I think it's still too early to determine the baseline with your coach (I think he is great, FWIW). Definitely a quick uptick from 2016-17, then another good season in 2018. But this year as definitely a regression. I know next to nothing about your team next year but I see a lot of 5-6 win predictions in the thread over here. No idea if that is just the pessimistic fans or not, but there seems to be some worry about next season.

Not quite the same path Kirk took going from the bottom to 11-2 his 4th season, then another 2 great Top 10 seasons after that followed by a regression.
