Iowa Football Recruiting

I've been to 2 NY6 bowl games that Iowa played in and several New Years Day bowls. I don't waste my time or money going to bowls like the Holiday bowl or Camping World Bowl. I would say the one non major bowl game I would go to is Nashville, just because of the city would be a blast and the proximity.

Kind of in the same boat. Been to a handful of bowl games and try to go a bowl game very couple of years or so unless it is a NY6 game or handy location. Been to three NY6 games and four other ones over the years.

Yeah, I mean I get it though for teams that don't normally get to a bowl game, they are a big deal for them. When you have gone to a a bowl game in 17 of the last 19 years, that is a lot of cheddar, and you gotta pick and choose the good ones from the meh ones.

Looking at patterns, since 2002, Iowa usually makes a NY6 every 6-7 years. Next year would be 5 years since the Rose Bowl so looks like you're going to have to wait a year or two until your next trip

I'm good with that. I usually have a family vacation in Jan./Feb. schedule out 6-12 months in advanced, so slipping in a Bowl game isn't ideal. That is mainly why I just do it for the biggies, and sometimes a New Years day bowl.

Why a New Years Day bowl?

I try to do three trips a year and don’t always want them to center around sports. The world is too big to limit yourself that way. I have a lot of exploring to do.

I know these might be strange to ISU fans considering they have never played in one. They are bowl games that occur on New Years day.
Lol New Years Day bowls aren't the gold standard of bowl games. It's all about matchups and those matchups can be great one year and not as great the next. This year's Outback Bowl is completely different than last year's.

LOL, once you make it to a New Years day bowl, we will see if you feel this way. Until then, speak about what you know and not what is simply a theory to you.

While I feel that for the most part NY day bowl games are nicer than the Holiday Bowl tier, they have lost some of their luster over the years. The Outback Bowl, while better than the Camping World and Holiday Bowl, isn’t that much better.

What an egotistical thing to say lol. Don't try and put me or anyone other ISU fan into a box because your team makes the Outback Bowl and Capital One Bowl every once in a while.

Capital One Bowl they have made once, but have made five outback bowls.

Bowl game cheddar for me isn't much different cost wise than 3 to 4 days at the B12 tournament in KC. Hotel costs are the same if not more, and the ticket costs are more for basketball.

A drive to KC cost you gas money. Flying somewhere over New Years eve is typically around a G, and my Rose Bowl flights were well over a G. It really isn't about the money though, it is more about going somewhere for 2-4 days over the holidays, it just doesn't always sync up with family activities.

Alright either way, saying I can't speak on things because ISU hasn't made the Outback Bowl is outrageous.

It is like many things in life, until you experience it, you really don't know what you are talking about. I mean I was the world's greatest parent until I had kids, then I realized all my "theoretical parenting" doesn't always work like you think it will.

So you can speak on it all you want, your opinion means nothing having never experience it.

My direct San Antonio flight for 2 with tickets was about $1200, the same as gas money and 2 tickets to the B12. Hotels, food, are all similar.
The point I'm making is that ISU fans show up repeatedly at it, much like Iowa has repeatedly gone to bowl games.

Take it easy, they might not know that such a thing as a conference basketball tournament exists.

I'm not trying to sidetrack the thread that much, I'm just saying the 17 of 19 is pretty damn similar to expensive, long weekends in KC. So I dont think it would get "stale" for a lot of ISU fans like maybe hes alluding to is happening for him/Iowa fans.
