Darlinstone Dubar

Foster is not that good. He should be ranked like 100-150

him being from Iowa also way over inflates his value to ISU fans

if he was from Missouri no one would give a shít he broke up with his GF, what he wore to visits, what tweets he liked, etc.

These are the takes I come for. Ok fine, so the people who evaluate high schoolers for a living find him to be a consensus top-75 player. Sure, he's a legitimate 6' 10", mobile, athletic and has a nice shooting touch.

But Artic Zone watched him play against Carlisle one time and doesn't think he's that good.

My thoughts continue to be that Xavier has maybe underperformed relative to his size and athletic ability in high school, largely due in fact to him being bored. I think he's chosen to work on other areas of his game in lieu of putting some 6' 1" kid from from Chariton though the rim every play.

You are one of my favorite posters on here, so thank you for the info.

Just some comments in response...

-- Even if Foster was the #150 guy in the country, that is still a decent post recruit for us. Jacobson and Young are about to leave. We need good replacements.

-- Yes, you are right, but we both know we have a checkered history with in-state recruits and watching them go to an obviously inferior program to the east. Iowa has generally had 1-2 guys from in-state schools that I would have liked to have had during the McCaffery era. Joe Wieskamp is a stud, for instance, and JorBo is lippy but a good player. We should have had Jok. There is no reason the best in-state players should not always be wearing cardinal and gold unless opposing coaches are quite literally their family like with A.J. Green and Fran's sons.

-- Confirming the rumor about breaking up with the girlfriend...? I know that is what high schoolers and young adults do but, man, I feel sorry for Xavier on that one.

Foster has potential. He has all that you would want in a kid that is almost 7 feet tall. He is smooth, athletic, can shoot it a little. If a coach get's ahold of him they could make him a great player.
Agree.

Most bigs are raw. If Foster didn’t need some of the development, he’d be an elite recruit for Duke or some other blue blood. We’ve watched Prohm do that for his players.

I've only heard some info third/fourth hand so can't confirm it's true, but I wouldn't feel too sorry for him

I don't think him being from Iowa over inflates his value to fans. Him being ranked high on 247/rivals is what does it. since most fans take those rankings as gospel.

How do you think he compares to George Conditt? If he's that good, he's definitely worth being excited about.

I will say that foster was helped in his rankings by starting so highly ranked. It's far easier to shoot up the rankings than tank; And he is a very solid recruit. I would put him closer to the 75-125 range. I don't think he is over-ranked per se, but I also wouldn't be disagreeing with a ranking a bit lower than what he currently is.

In terms of being down on ISU, this post is worse than anything from those “hating” Prohm.

I'm ecstatic that I have been able to enjoy the most successful sustained run in ISU basketball history. Not down on the program at all. I understand where we have come from. Appreciative is the word I'd use. Keep reading into what I'm not saying though. It's comical.

- Him being from Iowa certainly inflates his reputation. I don’t think that’s a diss on us fans, but it isn’t wrong. We haven’t had a decent Iowa kid we went out and actively recruited in a long time. Would be nice to have one to root for.

- Hearing some rumors Prohm is asking fans to go “Steeeeeeeve” like they do on the Steve Wilkos show when he comes out. Not sure if this is start a thread worthy or not, but if we like Steve Prohm, we need to get the word out that, much like the fan base clapping when Hoiberg came out, we are expected to just simply go “Steeeeeeeve”

I appreciate the opinion on Foster. He may not have "impressed" you during vs the high school competition and may not live up to the dream many Cyclone fans have. I think part of that is just the competion level and he's still developing into the player he can be. I believe playing under Prohm will help him be the best stretch post he can be.

Xavier's potential is why he is highly rated and why his numbers may indicate a 125ish player compared to 50ish but 7 footers with a solid outside shot is rare as a 18 year old. The staff has seen him multiple times and clearly identified him as the priority post recruit in this class. That alone is reason that I want them to be rewarded for their effort regardless if he's from Iowa or not. (Granted EIU tears would be a bonus.) I will side with the staff on this and be very please to watch him play for the Cyclones.

But not in Hilton. See, it's easy to pin prick things when you are a pin p****. We went from last to winning the conference tourney.....in one year....with a completely changed roster. That's coaching. Should he be questioned for some of the things he did....absolutely. Just as CMC should be questioned why he passed 60 plus times against a team like OSU. But that doesn't mean they suck, or should be canned. But you can't be reasonable with unreasonable people. You can try....but it's like arguing with a pig that mud makes you dirty. They just smile and keep rolling in it.

FYI trying to get info on Dubar will post what i hear.

Im sure DMR, CF, etc will post “staff feels good” or some post visit bs that applies to literally every recruiting visit ever. I’ll see what real info i can get.

Can you please ask what he wants to be called? Darlinstone, Darlin, Daryl, Dar, etc? Trying to make a fat head of him and want to make sure it’s appropriate.

You’re right the potential is there.
Where i genuinely feel bad for XF and the staff is the dumbass casual fans that see top 75 and Iowa HS kid and will expect 15 points and 30 minutes as a freshman and will ***** in the Facebook comments when he’s not.

He’s a project. He could be very good. He could suck. Anyone saying as a fact he has some shooting touch or amazing athletic ability is stupid. The kid plays 3A b-ball and barely averaged 13 ppg. He COULD be good. he COULD suck. Kids one of the biggest wild cards I’ve seen in years that ISU has recruited.

Based on...what?

I can't imagine the Jerry Meyer or Paul Biancardi types care too much about where they previously had a kid ranked. They are putting together a list of the top 100 prospects. So I would venture to guess if he wasn't a top 75 type prospect, they wouldn't put in him in the Top 75.

BTW on Foster. You get a ranking from AAU ball, not high school. The AAU guys are ranking on how good you are and how high you have for upside. So he may be a lot better in AAU playing in the right position, playing with a point guard that can get him the ball, playing in the right offense. He is also playing against the best players in the country. So they get to see what he is doing against other good players. It also hurt him that he was out with a foot injury so his ranking dropped a little bit.

He is a very valuable recruit for us in many ways.

I hear raw 7 footer and all I can think of is the former T Rex Woodbury.

Foster can go to Iowa State and be molded into a potential NBA first rounder, or he can go the way of Fran and be molded into something quite different, good for two eye pokes a game.

People are human and sometimes get things a little off? It's not meant to be a slight, but it has been a consistent thing throughout the expanded recruiting rankings era that impressive big men that are close to 7 foot and dominating in their frosh soph years of prep tend to stay towards the top even if their production doesn't increase. Again, not saying Foster isn't or can't be a great get, but you're belief that Meyers and Biancardi's rankings must be right because they do it for a living can be debunked by looking at even a Tyrese Haliburton type ranking..

I don’t think him ending up being a role player like Woodbury would be a bad outcome. Not good, but not bad.
