I think it had more to do with TV matchups than it did intentionally trying to give them a brutal schedule. I think alot of people wanted to see them fail when joining the Big 10 so it made for must-see-tv. Matching them up against the Big 10 heavyweights right out of the gate achieved both missions, lots of TV revenue, while watching them struggle.
Gotta love Iowa fans claiming how the Nebby Iowa rivalry is so much bigger yet they are always rushing on here to defend their rival. Makes total sense.
I think people think their recruiting has fallen moving to the Big 10 mainly because they lost recruiting ties to Texas and other southern states. In reality it just has more to do with hiring a couple really crappy coaches. When Nebby moved conferences, Bo Pelini was winning pretty much exactly the same amount. Had he stayed they would have been the same old yearly 9-10 win team.Contrastly it's weird that the B1G gets ragged on so much around here, but people use the move to the B1G as the reason that Nebraska isn't successful, which comes off as a knock on the B12, which they tout as a tougher league than the B1G.

I don't think the divisions in the big 10 are that lopsided. Yes the East is better, but Wisc just throttled Mich and MSU. Minn isn't too bad, they'd get 3rd or 4th in the East and they'll get 2nd in the West. Here's how I'd rank the Big 10
OSU
Penn St
Wisc
Mich
Minn
Iowa
MSU
The rest..
So the top 7 has 4 from the East and 3 from the West. Michigan is about like Texas is the big 12, always over hyped and underachieving.
And has been pointed out that is a myth. Their recruiting classes in the. Big 10 have been every bit as good or better than their last several in the Big 12. Not to mention Pelini was successful in both leagues. And weird, Calahan sucked in the Big 12. It's almost as if who the coach is factors into program success. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa are all pretty good teams. Honestly, Illinois is looking more and more like a not so bad team as the year goes on. Northwestern, Purdue, and Nebraska are really ****** though.I don't think the divisions in the big 10 are that lopsided. Yes the East is better, but Wisc just throttled Mich and MSU. Agreed, that’s why if they just hired a good coach they would be back to being a regular 9-10 win team again. Coaching and player development is pretty much the issue there.Their recruiting hasn't fallen. Here's Nebby's 247 team recruiting rank and (#) of 4 star recruits (plus 5 stars) since 2000:
2000 - #17 (1) (also 1 5 star)
2001 - #39 (1)
2002 - #35 (2)
2003 - #35 (2)
2004 - #27 (2)
2005 - #8 (7) (also 1 5 star)
2006 - #21 (5)
2007 - #19 (6)
2008 - #24 (3)
2009 - #40 (4)
2010 - #26 (5)
2011 - #16 (9)
2012 - #32 (8)
2013 - #22 (7)
2014 - #35 (2)
2015 - #30 (4)
2016 - #26 (4)
2017 - #23 (6)
2018 - #23 (6)
2019 - #18 (7)
It's funny hearing Nebby fans whine about the cupboard being bare in terms of talent. They've averaged 5-6 4-star recruits each of the past five years. They've had the exact same number of 4-star recruits the past 5 years as the had in their last 5 years in the Big 12.
It’ll get exposed quickly in any conference. Well, not that quickly in the BIG, given NU’s success the first several years.Nebraska’s problem isn’t necessarily their skill guys but a lack of depth and toughness in the interior lines. They haven’t been “Nebraska” on the OL/DL for 15 years and that’ll get exposed very quickly in the Big 10
Nebraska averaged 9.25 wins the first 4 years in the Big 10. Are you saying it just took 5 years for that conference to expose their OL/DL?Nebraska’s problem isn’t necessarily their skill guys but a lack of depth and toughness in the interior lines. They haven’t been “Nebraska” on the OL/DL for 15 years and that’ll get exposed very quickly in the Big 10

Exactly. A program with those resources and that level of talent should be winning 9-10 games every year. Embarrassing.
