ISU soccer coach resigns

We talkin women's soccer. Women's soccer really? We talking women's soccer not football or basketball, but women's soccer.

- Allen Iverson

bro of any poster on this site I have to tell you that YOU ARE MISSING OUT. Nudge nudge wink wink :D:D:D

You aren't thinking of Lindsey, are you? I like her very much but I am not sure this is the right time.
I don't know of anyone currently residing in Iowa that we should hire as the HC if we are serious about competing in this sport. The individuals listed in this thread are assistant coaches in the Big 12- not HC's.

Go poach from somewhere and overpay them. Hire a staff that can recruit Iowa and KC and Illinois. It won't take long to turn this thing with the right hire

Where does she even coach? I don't think she is at Sporting, Rush or VSA.

Head Coach at Drake. Won 2 MVC Crowns in the past 4 years. That may not impress many but she has BY FAR the worst resources in her conference. She is a good coach for sure.

I would much rather hire her than some coach from NDSU or SDSU but I am hoping we can land a Dresser or Martin Smith type coach before we have to make such a move.

Okay- if you hired Lindsey and Sean Holmes as her assistant, I am 100% SOLD.
Holmes has taken men's teams to the Elite Eight and he too has a recruiting pipeline in Iowa, Kansas and Illinois.

Another plus for hiring Horner would be that the best programs have coaches that have been there for a long long time. I think she would stick around. With a little success longevity becomes its own virtue and the programs with these long tenured coaches just run on auto pilot.

I guess I don't see anything wrong with hiring an assistant coach from somewhere - we hired Boomer Saia for women's tennis, who's improved things tremendously.
He was an assistant at Vandy and then Texas Tech.
Now, as to how long he stays...

Kansas City and StL are two huge soccer markets. You would think ISU could pull some kids out of those markets.

Brian Bahl. Waterloo native and very successful at D2 Minnesota State. Was the head boys coach at Waterloo West before that so I'm guessing he has some ins with the state soccer community.
Yep, and he coached at D2 Upper Iowa University and was successful there as well.

I feel like you’re getting leftovers and maybe even leftover leftovers out of those markets. I’d Target DSM, the rest of Iowa, Omaha/Lincoln and Sioux Falls if I were building the ISU program. I’d rather compete with Nebraska for the best players in Omaha and Lincoln than KU, KSU, Missouri, Arkansas for KC kids. it seems like STL kids head east or private.

Trying to tangle with SEC schools is a non starter in women’s soccer for an ISU. If an SEC school offers then it’s all over for the most part.

True, but if you hire a coach with a ton of Club experience and connections you can build the program fast. Like James Madisson in Softball. Literally just move the girls from the club to the college ranks.

Hmmmm. Maybe I should apply. All the teams I played for in my career were in last place when I joined them, and ended in first before I left. Yes. That includes ISU ;) But, not everyone was an immediate turn around. ISU took all 5 years, a house cleaning, and some decent comrade. Not to mention off-season self organized practices. Ok. Now for the kicker. We won the Big-8 the year I left. Yes. OLD! But still young at heart. :D

Soccer hadn't been invented yet when I was at ISU.

I might have known some gals who later became soccer mom's though. Cannot confirm.

Knew a girl on the soccer club when I was at ISU, her sophomore year they started the soccer team so she got a scholarship so they would have enough players. Basically made the club the team and then went from there.
