Here's the release from ISU:

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head soccer coach Tony Minatta has announced that he is resigning from his position effective the end of the season.

Iowa State Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Calli Sanders accepted his resignation Monday afternoon.

The Cyclones are 3-14 overall and will host Kansas Thursday at 7 p.m. to end its regular season. Minatta will coach that game.

“We appreciate Tony’s committed service and dedication the past eight seasons, and we wish him well as he pursues other opportunities,” Sanders said. “We will begin a national search for a replacement immediately.”

Minatta was the Cyclones’ head coach the last six seasons, compiling a 33-71-6 (.327) overall record. His Big 12 mark was 7-40-4 (.176). He was an assistant at Iowa State for two years before taking the reins of the program in December, 2013.

Minatta’s best season on the sidelines was in 2016 when the Cyclones were 10-8-1, including a pair of Top-25 road wins. ISU was No. 48 in the final RPI rankings that year, the highest mark in school history.

Good Guy- wish it could have worked out for him. His 2016 team was screwed out of the NCAA Tournament by the selection committee. Okie State was the last team selected that season and we beat them at their place, had nearly identical RPI's and we finished ahead of them in the Big 12.

Always wondered if they had made that field how things could have been different?

Still, the program has some talent and these past two seasons have been abysmal.

Might be the toughest job at ISU. Almost zero instate talent, new facilities are still middle of the pack at best in conference, no history and the Big 12 has some legit teams.

No the toughest job here is tennis - not even a campus indoor facility to hold meets.
Tony never got the best players in the state to play here. Don't know why they fired Dillinger if they didn't have someone better to hire...

This is a fair point. When Wendy was done, I assumed they had a plan to improve things. Tony is a good dude but his hire hardly screamed committed to winning.

I know where to find the next coach. She lives in Des Moines or more accurately probably West Des Moines. Let me know if you need a mediator JP.

Lets hire the Waukee girls coach, he would lock down in-state recruiting. His teams have been consistent for several years.

She has served as a volunteer assistant at ISU previously, but no real college coaching experience. She is great, but probably needs to be an assistant first.

Phil Weston has made a career out of turning historically poor programs into true champions, and does so with very limited talent. He also has a lot of great connections. Hopefully JP reaches out to him, as I think he would be GREAT for Iowa State.

Brian Bahl. Waterloo native and very successful at D2 Minnesota State. Was the head boys coach at Waterloo West before that so I'm guessing he has some ins with the state soccer community.

I assume this is Calli's deal, like it was last time.

You aren't thinking of Lindsey, are you? I like her very much but I am not sure this is the right time.
I don't know of anyone currently residing in Iowa that we should hire as the HC if we are serious about competing in this sport. The individuals listed in this thread are assistant coaches in the Big 12- not HC's.

Go poach from somewhere and overpay them. Hire a staff that can recruit Iowa and KC and Illinois. It won't take long to turn this thing with the right hire

Lindsey is who I would go after. I’m a little biased but she’s got a system and has a great eye for defensive talent. I can’t think of anyone that would be more connected to Iowa girls soccer at the HS, ODP and club levels. Just like in the other outdoor sports in the Big 12 gotta be the “Big Ten equivalent” in the Big 12 to be successful.
