Can you actually call those a throwback? I am pretty sure it was just a uniform designed to honor him. I also believe someone figured out that the actually uniform he wore when he played was gold.

Agree. This is the 1968/69 helmet, correct? With the overlapping ISU script? Classic football beauty. The modern logo looks better on it than I would have thought. Great design.
There seems to be a lot of hills to die on in this thread.
Based solely on The Helmet Project, '76 had a mixture of no stripe and the C-W-C striping on the helmet. ... My fading memory adheres to it being stripes, but I could be totally wrong. Appears 77 and 78 both had helmet stripes full-season.
you should have seen this place before we had a white helmet.
