I've been thinking about getting an electric scooter for a bit, and wonder if anybody has experience with them and has recommendations. It'd mostly be for my commute and short trips less than 2 miles. My main concern is that I'm 225 lbs and I got a couple hills to deal with. The main reason I want one is that it can be kind of a pain to find a bike spot on the light rail, and the scooters are much more compact.

I will look into these. I’d want it to fold up pretty small and easy. I also have a problem with sitting on bikes. Ever since my back went out earlier this year, I’ve had tailbone pain when sitting on things like golf carts and especially bikes. It’s embarrassing, but some ass pain seems to be part of my life now.

Do you think there would be a problem with someone stealing your scooter? I guess they would steal a bike just as easy. I've enjoyed my scooter rides when, I've had them....but I am a motorcyclist and it is hard to give up that power/acceleration.

Iiving in Denver as we do, I would say you are begging to get hit. I don't think the driving community has completely acclimated to them and they are hard to see. I had one cruising on 14th street that nearly got hit by a few people.
Couple that with conditions like yesterdays roads and it would be a hard pass for me.

So I don't live or work downtown and can get to the light rail and from the light rail to work without running into much traffic. I'd have to cross I-25 on the ped bridge by Evans so I need to at least wait until the end of October when the city evaluates their use on trails. Definitely banned on sidewalks. Maybe I'll just have to stick to walking

Unfortunately these rental scooters are not banned on sidewalks in the Twin Cities.

Some people are respectful and careful riding them but the vast majority are just plain oblivious.

don't mean to be Debbie Downer, but I wouldn't feel safe with one of those, but I'm also an old fart. hope you find a good option.
