Just an FYI: Coaches and the team were at State Center last evening for the 37th Annual MBB Banquet. Good time mingling with players and coaches. Sat in the vicinity of Solo, Bolton, Halliburton and Conditt. Seems to be a lot of positive energy between team members. Lewis was nominated as the best singer/dancer.

I thought it was interesting that CSP made a strong point about 9 different ISU players with strong NBA ties. While looking in the general direction of Tyrese, he pointed out that seven of these players also had their degree from ISU. Probably wishful thinking on his part.

What is an MMB Banquet? And as it is something that includes the ISU MBB team, how could they have 37 of them without me hearing about it?

The very first banquet featured Johnny attempting to ride a huge boar named Shank... It's the fastest I've seen a grown man move.

Johnny riding the boar was actually around the 5th or 6th year. They said it was the first at the banquet but that was a minor error not worth correcting. They had entertainment each year, and that was definitely one of the best years. Had players pose for pics w piglets the prior year, a spaghetti dinner where Johhny dumped the meal all over my dad and hornacek smashed a pie in a guy's face, and a yearly auction where Greg Hester's jersey sold for a crazy amount of money. Only reason I know this is bc my dad is the one that started the whole thing.

Nice. Tell us more. I don't even know what the event is. It sounds fantastic. Next best thing to the CF Tip Off party.

So, there used to be Cyclone Club events like this all around the state. Not sure how many. My dad originally introduced himself to Johnny and set up one for State Center (about 25min straight east of Ames, easy for team to get to). All the players came, and in early years the poms and some of the band. Some guests got to host a player (aka sit by them and make them feel welcome). I was in middle school and always got to pick who I wanted to sit by - I chose john culbertson one year, random. Was an amazingly fun event, plus they raised a few thousand dollars for ISU from an annual auction they did at it. Think it is much more streamlined now, but still fun from what I hear.

1986 - johnny watched Dave Cox ride a sow w a saddle on it (briefly, it just stood there) and then when it was his turn he was convinced he would get some tiny little thing or wouldnt really have to do it. They led out this....and he was terrified. His had a blanket and hay rope for grip....He finally got on, for maybe 1 sec. As soon as it moved he couldnt get out of the pen fast enough.

Pic of him holding a pig is from 1988. Not a great pic, but was so funny to see how uncomfortable the players were holding them. Big vic is holding a pig too.

This was all made more amazing by the fact that many of the players had never seen a pig up close before in their life until they started coming to this banquet
