RELEASE: Rasir Bolton will play for the Cyclones this season

Halliburton was last out of the 5 guards (LW, THT, MS, NWB, TH) in scoring and rebounding. He was first in assists. This year might be different though.

Last year Haliburton was a roll player. He knew his place, but also proved himself to be much more than he was expected to be. This year, he is expected to be a leader in more than one way. I see him stepping into that roll and again exceeding what some think are his limitations. He will do well.

I like that there’s really no NBA hype behind any of the guys this year. Yes Haliburton is a first rounder on some mocks but he doesn’t count because he’s so unselfish and know to just play and they’ll see what he does. I think Bolton will be our leading scorer with good percentages. If big Mike can average 13-14 and Tyrese 12-13 this team will be in great shape. Defense should be improved this year with Nixon at the head of it.

I’m interested to see how CSP dishes out minutes to Jacobson, Solo, and Conditt. I think all three need significant minutes, but they need to be able guard in space or we need to play more zone. Conditt has a ton of potential, I excited to see him improvement.

I know it's crazy to think already, but this will be Halliburton's team this year, and I'm really excited to see what kind of year he's going to have. I'm expecting a huge year from him, and if so, it will be his last year in Ames IMO.

I think with Bolton getting his eligibility, that will get us in the NCAA tourney... but barely.

I'm really intrigued by this team though because when you look at the roster.... it's just full of athleticism from top to bottom. So I think we'll be a really fun team to watch. The number of wins will depend on how fast they can mesh together and Prohm can find the best lineups IMO.

Not so sure. Not bagging on Haliburton as I really like him. However, watching games last year, if someone stepped out of line or needed to step up, it seemed to me Jacobson was the more vocal leader on the floor.

I guess if by “top” you mean possibly going 10-8 in conference and making it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney I can get on board. But this team isn’t raising any banners.

Did I just hear, "Challenge accepted," from the Sukup Facility?

To me this is the most interesting year for Iowa State basketball in a long time. There are so many questions. Will Nixon be able to make the jump to Big 12 ball. Who's going to have a breakout year, Terrance Lewis or Zion or both (that would be great). How will Prohm use and utilize our 3 bigs. So many more questions but if a lot of them are answered in a good way then this team can be special. No big heads on this team.

i just think we have a group of guys that want to be here and arent dreaming of being in the nba or dreaming of their own vanity. Young has to stay healthy. We are going to need him for the physical teams.

Now that we have Bolton the question marks around this team are pretty minimal in my opinion. Nixon is going to be a good player and we know what we have in our bigs. The rotation is what I'm most curious about

I actually have fewer questions about the rotation and starting lineup this year than any other year in the "era" from 2010-2011 forward, save maybe Georges' senior year.

I think the five starters are pretty clear...

Haliburton
Bolton
Nixon
Jacobson
Young

...with Conditt not far behind if not starting.

There will be a guard as a seventh man and maybe an eight after that, so there is competition there, but having a set starting lineup plus a very likely sixth man and an open competition for the seventh man in the rotation is not much uncertainty for the roster.

Fans underestimate the value of playing as a team.. I’ve watched many less talented teams whip teams with stud players bc they are playing for the jersey as Prohm says.

Biggest loss is Shayok by far... everyone else production can be replaced.
Agree - although, I cringed every time MS would drive to the basket. He was a deadly & clutch shooter - including at the FT line - and a great defender. Definitely will miss that & need others to fill those voids!
