RELEASE: Rasir Bolton will play for the Cyclones this season

Me too. Wish him luck for sure but I just have this feeling with THT, Lard and Wigginton gone, the me becomes more like we.

We could be the most we team ever and if don’t shoot 80% as a team from the FT line or get out-rebounded in one game we instantly become an effortless, “hero ball” team.

Everyone is role player this year with some limitations to their game. We don’t have Shayok, NWB, THT, and LW - all purpose studs. Talley and Lard were also one dimensional role players. I don’t like playing someone 35-40 minutes when you can use a new skill set, fresh legs, no fouls, with substitutes that are close to the same skill level. There will be no NBA auditions this year because no one (except TH maybe) is good enough to go there. We have less talent than the opposition this year, so we either have to make up for it with cohesion or depth and effort IMO.

Bolton had 3 games with 25+ points so thats intriguing but what I really like is that he's up near 90% from the line. Seems ISU has not been a great FT shooting team the last couple years.

IIRC we were pretty good at FT last year, esp with Shayok shooting a lot. Before that, yeah, we’ve been a surprisingly poor FT shooting team given the style of play we’ve generally had.

I know it's crazy to think already, but this will be Halliburton's team this year, and I'm really excited to see what kind of year he's going to have. I'm expecting a huge year from him, and if so, it will be his last year in Ames IMO.

I think with Bolton getting his eligibility, that will get us in the NCAA tourney... but barely.

I'm really intrigued by this team though because when you look at the roster.... it's just full of athleticism from top to bottom. So I think we'll be a really fun team to watch. The number of wins will depend on how fast they can mesh together and Prohm can find the best lineups IMO.

This team will have some good tests in the non-con that will tell us a lot. Excited to see how they fare.

Screw this “but barely” ****. We have an incredible program under Prohm.

ISU will be easily in the Top 4 of the Big 12 this year. In the mix, as ISU should be. Halliburton is a freaking stud. Defense and rebounding will easily be up due to Solo being back. Bolton is going to be better than last year because ISU is just a more talented program than PSU. He’s surrounded by better talent, and that will help elevate his play.

Shayok... going to miss that guy, but we have that great sit-out transfer feel again in Nixon. That dude is a great addition. Prohm’s going to have this squad ready to rock.

I like Haliburton and Bolton to produce scoring, with Jacobson and Nixon to produce that toughness I miss from Hogue.

My attempt at breaking down how I can see the scoring averages going. I don’t think we’ll have anyone over 15PPG but we’ll have a pretty balanced scoring attack.

Rasir Bolton: 13.2
Tyrese Haliburton: 12.8
Michael Jacobson: 11.1
Prentiss Nixon: 10.2
Tre Jackson: 7.5
Solomon Young: 7.2
Terrence Lewis: 5.5
George Conditt: 5.3
Zion Griffin: 3.2
Caleb Grill: 2.1
Marcedus Leech: 1.5
Luke Anderson: 1.2

I think the top 8 is pretty set right now. Zion and Caleb have a chance to get minutes as well by either breaking into the 8 spot or ISU going 9 deep.

I don’t see Anderson and Leech playing much. Not because I don’t think Leech is good enough, but because he missed so much time during the summer being back home, still is getting back from a major injury and didn’t play with the team on the foreign trip. I think he’s so talented though. Offensively he’s one of our best players. I’d love to see him get minutes because of his scoring ability. Redshirts for ISU don’t happen but I’d hate to waste a year of Leech if he’s not going to play. He’s way too talented and has way too much potential to waste a year.

With Bolton being eligible, I think ISU has a chance to finish in the 4-6 range and make a return to the NCAA Tournament.

This is the way I see it -

1) We are getting good enough talent to consistently be in the top half of the Big XII/Top 35 in the country
2) CSP is very good at getting the most out that talent and managing the program/issues you will always have with college kids
3) Chemistry, schedule and injuries will determine if our team is having a say in Big XII title or riding the bubble.

I think that is a great place to have the program. We'll have some special years and some years that seem frustrating to us because of the level the program has reached, but this program is in better shape than it ever has been and I am glad I get a chance to watch it.

I think Haliburton/Bolton/Nixon could have the chemistry/mix that we were missing much of last year but who knows. Should be fun to watch.

We're going to have some nice opportunities in the non-con with Atlantis, @ OSU, Seton Hall and Iowa. Will be a great test for this team.

Bolton could get a look by the NBA depending on production, especially if he shoots around 40% from 3. He certainly looks athletic enough based on his highlights from summer league and is still young enough to be drafted on his potential.

LW was 6'2" and 190.
RB is 6'2" and 180.

Bolton might run into the same problem Lindell did --

PG size, SG skills and mentality.

In the you never know category , I think this team has a chance to top last year.

Last year sure had a feel of a collection of mis-shaped pieces a lot of the time.

I guess if by “top” you mean possibly going 10-8 in conference and making it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney I can get on board. But this team isn’t raising any banners.

Not saying he will play like an audition as he’s clearly shown he’s bought into the program but TH is showing up on some draft boards as a 1st rounder.

This statement sounds eerily similar to the consensus about the team before last season... Before we were disappointed they did not win the Big 12 regular season.

That being said, if you offered me the above for next season, I probably take it.
