ISU press conference about band situation

I have Twitter, but glad I'm not on Twitter. Some of the Hawk fans on there make the trolls on here look like geniuses.

OMG!! What a complete tool.

That little impromptu question and answer with reporters was embarrassing. Only made him look worse. A lot worse.

He basically admits they have nothing to stand on whatsoever.... but they stand by the students. Okay buddy.... that's fine...... but if you have nothing to report.... then the story is over.... move on. You've already embarrassed yourself and your university enough already.
I kinda hope he doesn’t. This is gold and he’s more than screwed. Hence, why there are no hawk trolls in here defending him.

Sans the sexual assault allegations this whole thing is weak sauce. I don't think there's legs to that any way, no one wants to report anything now that the cops are investigating.

I was pro-band until I learned today that marching bands have no choice but to plow through a thick crowd of 10k and blare music in their faces if they are told to with no free will or ability of intelligent thought.

After getting that new piece of information I'm turning slightly anti-band since it sounds like the definition of a public menace.

(of course there's the overwhelmingly likely possibility that is pure BS, and in that case I'm still pro-band)
Yeah, some of these other former band members really lack perspective. They used to be a smaller minority, but perhaps it is a larger populace now.

No, a band going though a crowd of people can't force that crowd out of the way under the guise of formation

Ross with the awful take that this press conference was a bad idea. What the **** can we do when Iowa just lobbed a bunch of grenades. We have to defend our school and it would be negligent if they didn’t do this.
Reminds me of the WRNL article on Ross. LOL.

If you would bother to actually read the posts, most former marching band members are saying that the Iowa band's decision to try and force its way through the crowd was wrong. But, I guess we've just gotta hate for the sake of hating.

It is more than the decision by the band director. It is the behavior of the band members, which if you'd read, has been excused by a several posters.

85%+ of the band members can't even see any pushing going on at the front of the formation. They're just following the person behind them. They cannot see what's going on in front, because they are looking at the back of someone's head. They aren't looking at drone camera footage.

Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I've been working all day. Is there a video at all of JP's press conference today? I'm guessing there's not huh?

Can we just say everyone has to take some responsibility and blame? Yes the band leaders should take more than others because they are supposed to be a leader. But that doesn't mean any members of the band couldn't say no or not play and slink out quietly. And if there was a person who pushed back then they take some as well. All the band members take some blame as I imagine they reveled in the win with their pride and took that right into an opposing crowd. Accept some responsibility for your weak bruise and move on. It's not like someone cold cocked you in a dark alley.

JP and Barta were going to go with that approach until band members families started passing rumors into the press and Herrold got involved suggesting ISU had a bad program.

Telling JP he is running an unaccountable program is like killing John WIck's puppy.

CW better have defended Iowa state.

That is a completely different contention than bringing up they are taught to stay in formation at all costs and alluding to a right to touch people in a crowd they're ramming though. They had no right to try and physically maintain formation.

As for those that did not have the knowledge, via visual or otherwise, that the band was trying to move through a crowd in formation, it is unlikely they are the members of the band we are speaking of. There is not much relevance other than saying not all band members were involved. Further, given the gradients of the exits at JTS, plus common sense, it likely a larger percentage than you realize at fault.
