Surveillance footage of Iowa marching band exiting Jack Trice Stadium

whoever did anything wrong on the ISU end should be punished, but come on guys.

1. Couldn't they have just waited 5 more minutes? They could have walked out without any fan interaction. WTF?
2. Why would you think its a good idea after a 10 hour game and how it ended to have 200 band members blaring and plowing through a crowd of ISU fans. Where you wanting bad things to happen?

I understand why the facilities folks were upset with the band marching on a field that was wet and not wanting further damage especially since the band should have marched out the other gate and then they wouldn't be in the middle of the playing surface.

So let me get this straight, they were told to exit straight ahead on the less crowded East side gates, but instead chose to march across the field to the crowded West side gates? And then to top it off, instead of patiently waiting, they thought it was a good idea to march right through the crowd of people?

Either the band director is an arrogant prick or he’s just really, really dumb. Or both.

Why in the *ell would you ever do that? You can see the tubas at the front just plow into the crowd while playing their fight song. Yeah, I get it that you're a band and your team won a close one...but damn, that takes big ones. They basically flipped the crowd off by doing that.

Earlier, Pollard said the ISU band director was with the UI director sometime at the end of the night. If they were on the field together at exit time, hopefully ISU director did not give the OK to take the west gate shortcut. Ended up being the charge of the black and gold light brigade.

Yeah. I haven't seen Pollard's press confe
Holy provocation, Batman.

Let's march directly into a crowd of rival fans- what could possibly go wrong??

Yeah. Look, I don't condone anything that may have happened to any band members once they were in the middle of the crowd. If something emerges or a formal complaint is lodged then it should be investigated to the nth degree. Any fanbase - not just ISU's - should be better than that.
But right now there's nothing to go on; just some halfassed mudslinging and vague accusations from UI's administration and some pictures and unsubstantiated claims on social media. At the moment, it looks like a spectacularly poor decision by whoever led the band to that gate and an even worse reaction by UI's AD/village idiot Gary Barta.

Punish? Can we stop with the narrative of punishing ISU fans "if something happened". That's victim blaming those that faced danger from the Iowa band.

We can joke about it, but the fans were getting rammed by a group a hundred deep, with metal objects, that apparently think they must avoid "breaking ranks" at all cost. Add in general hawkeye fans boorish and aggressive behavior, and you effectively have ISU fans facing a huge gang that is looking for trouble.

It is time for the narrative to be, "punish the band" if it can be documented that their behavior was inappropriate, if not criminal.

I vote BOTH.

It's like they ALMOST got it right by waiting but got impatient and left five minutes too earlier and than tried to march/push their way through. Really dumb. Even using the wrong gate another 5 minutes would have worked okay.

So to recap:

1. Statement from Iowa saying their band was treated poorly
2. ISU fires back saying give us more details
3. Joint statement saying it's over
4. Iowa reopens the investigation - no further details given to ISU
5. Iowa president says they might cancel the series and bad things happened in Ames - still no further details given to ISU
6. ISU fires back saying this is everything we have, please tell us more of what happened
7. ISU releases surveillance footage showing what their cameras caught
8. Iowa says they never closed the investigation

What in the hell is going on here? We're 10 days removed from the game and this situation has spun so far out of control that we now have surveillance footage being released by ISU. No one wins in this. The Iowa administration looks inept as typically they do and ISU is put in the impossible position of trying to defend itself against non-specific allegations without being given anything to investigate. If ISU says anything to defend itself, it's uniformly called "victim blaming" and if they say nothing, they're allowing the U of I to direct the narrative of this ****show without having their voice heard at all.
