Nexstar to sell WOI 5/ABC - Sold to Tegna

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Since they have KCWI in Des Moines also and WHOTV does the whole 17 thing.

I thought also thought WOI was already in the process of being sold off.

I really think these huge companies hurt local stations and news coverage as a whole. The silver lining is maybe 13 can get some good new on air talent. Some of the new people they have been hiring struggle at times.

Why is that?
FCC rules don't allow one company to own two top four stations in the same market. Since KCWI is 5th (I'm assuming), they can can be owned by a company that owns the others, but 5, 8, 13 and 17 need to be owned by different companies.

Edit - This is the whole reason for this sale. Nexstar, (which owns WOI) is buying tribune (who owns WHO). Nexstar can only own one of the stations, so they are selling the less valuable one.

Sinclair owns both CBS2 (KGAN) and FOX28 (KFXA) in Eastern Iowa. I don't believe that rule exists anymore.
