It is still a Hawkeye State

TOP and # of plays were heavily in the Hawks favor. Sometimes total yardage isn’t a good barometer and this game was a case in point

Total yardage not always but yards per play was 7.7 to 4.4, isu had a low number of plays and possession time due to two big scoring plays. 4.8 to 3.0 on yards per rush. I’d say ISU was the better team besides some big mistakes, two dropped interceptions.

Iowa’s defense was giving Iowa State a huge cushion and letting them take as many short throws as they wanted. Yards per play isn’t really an accurate indicator when that happens IMO. Iowa State’s yards per play was also inflated by a trick play and another blown coverage. Outside of those two plays, Iowa State’s offense didn’t really do much, other than take what Iowa’s defense was giving them.

Still more than what Iowa’s offense was doing even without the big plays

Take exactly what you said and turn it around. Take away those 2 big ISU plays and what happens to the YPP? These teams are pretty equal and the final score showed that. ISU’s defense is really good - I feel really good about that team moving forward.

1 thing I hated was the QB runs. They didn’t work and stopped at least 3 drives.

Still 4.8 to 3.0 yards per rush and more yards play...but yes pretty equal teams. Dropped picks frustrated me the most.

Eh, I disagree. Iowa just sat back in a super soft zone (even softer than usual) and let Iowa State take all the short throws they wanted. Classic “bend but don’t break” defense. Not sure you can really take much away from what Iowa State did on offense.

On the other hand, Iowa moved the ball well on 1st and 2nd down and was consistently in 3rd and short, they just insisted on running the ball out of heavy formations on 3rd and 1 when it was clear that wasn’t going to work. Iowa State also did a good job of playing “bend but don’t break” defense by holding Iowa to FG attempts on 4 red zone trips.

We literally should have crushed them today. I better not hear any hawkeye pansy ***** about not having any luck, things not going their way, blah, blah, ******* blah. They have cashed all of their get out of jail free cards, it's time they get ass ****** with karma

You were happy with Iowa's offense? Wow. Good for you.

Iowa’s RBs went for 4.3 yards per carry on 25 carries. Against a really good defense like Iowa State’s, I will take that any time. Those are actually really encouraging numbers for Iowa’s offense, because last year they couldn’t run the ball at all against good defenses.

Right but those numbers change drastically if you take those plays away.

That rush stat also included Stanley having 7 carries for 11 yards. So it’s a little deceptive. ISU moved the ball - and like I said I didn’t like the QB run option stuff they did that stopped drives, so I didn’t love the play calling.

ISU's poor tackling gave Iowa some nice YAC. Iowa's RBs are good so that's part of it but that was frustrating to watch.

Except for having 4 of our top 5 CB's and starting LT out for the game.

There were definitely one or two runs in the 2H where an Iowa State player lost their footing on defense, leading to a big gain (I can think of one outside run by Iowa’s freshman Tyler Goodson in particular). Sargent did a really good job of gaining extra YAC though. He ran really hard, and it seemed like he was always pushing forward for an extra 1 or 2 yards.

The **** are you talking about. The big ten announce team even commented on how he didn’t have an impact on the game.
He was handled for 3 quarters but he disrupted purdy quite a bit in the forth., specifically forcing him to throw a little high.

We shot ourselves in the foot big time. Two turnovers were the difference. We avoid those or get one of the two INTs we had in our hands and we win. Handed the game away and the hawks were happy to take it. After two games, I see a 6 win team if we don’t see some solid improvement. Big XII has been laying the lumber these last few weeks. Going to be a dogfight.
