It is still a Hawkeye State

Are you tired of singing this same song for 5 years in a row? At some point, you just have to admit Iowa is better, and move on.

Iowa was better tonight in the fact they played a clean game and ISU continued to shoot themselves in the foot.... I completely agree with that.

Even some Iowa fans on here have admitted ISU looked like the better team. You just can't kill yourself.

You also have to catch some lucky breaks. ISU had one turnover when the game was still in question, but Stanley had numerous poor throws or throws deflected up in the air, but just nobody happened to be in the area where they came down.... or ISU just flat out dropped the one in the endzone right in their hands. That's just the breaks.

I feel really confident about the rest of the season for ISU after tonight though. I thought they played really well and looked like the MUCH more dangerous team that has a higher ceiling.

Good news is... we clearly outplayed them and looked a LOT better this game than the UNI game.

Also... JGJ owned Epenesa all game, except maybe one or two plays tops.

And... a non holding call against Iowa, and a holding call against ISU was probably the difference in what actually happened versus ISU winning by 10 or more.

I'm optimistic going forward if they can just find a way to be smarter at times in critical situations.

So you're blaming the refs... original.

So, no. You don't get tired of this same song and dance. Iowa has been better for 5 years straight. Accept it and move on.

Not if they both play clean games. ISU made stupid self inflicted mistakes and Iowa did not.

ISU definitely played better overall, but you just can't kill yourself.

Kudos to Iowa for not shooting themselves in the foot and getting some critical calls and no calls at absolutely crucial times in the game.

no mistakes? The defense literally didn't bother covering an isu receiver twice. Those were pretty darn big mistakes

Well played game ISU, I wish you good fortune for the rest of the year. ISU picked at Iowa's weakness at CB with Hankins out today. Very smart play calling. I think both teams are going to have very good to exceptional years. Purdy is a stud, reminds me of Tate. Good luck, and I'm thankful that they got the game in.

There were plenty of no-calls that benefitted Iowa State tonight too. I can remember one where Epenesa was literally tackled from behind in the 1Q and no flag was thrown.

Both teams looked solid if unspectacular. As an Iowa fan, this was actually pretty encouraging. I thought Iowa moved the ball fairly well against a very good defense, they just couldn’t score TD’s when they got into the red zone. Iowa’s defense did exactly what I did NOT want them to do, but in the end they made enough plays to ice the game.

Lot of things to clean up for both teams.

ISU's defense played better though, much better actually. Iowa only averaged like 4 yds per play to ISU's over 7 yds per play. ISU totalled over 100 yds more than Iowa.

Just crucial mistakes self inflicted by ISU and a few horrible calls really cost ISU the game.
True, but kind of deceptive since over half your yards came on 2 plays where Iowa 4tg stringers forgot to cover.

Appreciate the actual non-trolling effort here but the bolded is incorrect.

Was a good game in that it was close. ISU needs to learn how to finish or it's a .500ish season which would be disappointing.

Kudos to Iowa for stepping up and maybe I'll catch another game or two of theirs.

At the end of the day you know Iowa is not going to beat themselves. As much as Campbell wants to preach detail, little things, etc., the last three games (excluding the weird Drake game) go like this...

Washington St - ISU kills themselves with turnovers and a key fumble lost
UNI - Need 3OT to heat them because you

Kansas State and Baylor last year were hardly gems.

You may want to look at the replay of that one. That's what I thought too until the replay. Epenesa slips while turning the corner, he wasn't tackled or held at all.

Not saying it's going to happen yet since it's so early but that's a real positive type of thing for Iowa's win column going forward. They got the W on a coin flip style game and could be the favorites in the West. TBH, should be favorites in about 6 of their last 9 games.
