You're in midseason form already. Might want to pace yourself.
Getting Gameday to come to Ames for the first time is a much bigger deal for the perception of the program than being ranked right now. If we want to be back in the Top 25, we'll have to "Prove It" against Iowa this week.
some of us have seen (and drunk) the mccarney koolaid, the rhoads koolaid...prove it is the right motto for this team. Us old timers want to believe. but the nut cups hang on the wall for a reason. But i have faith that this team will get better as the year goes on. whether we win or lose to the toe..it doesnt really matter to me at this point. Sure, it would be great to win. However, its not the end if we dont. Just believing that this team can get better is a step forward, at least for me. There is hope, but as i said, ive been here before. youthful exuberence is great, but after a certain point they have to prove it.

8 win seasons ain't doing it for you as an ISU fan?
90% of college football fans will watch GameDay and be very impressed with ISU, the fans, the facilities, the campus, etc, etc, etc.
But only about 5% of the nation's college football fans will actually watch the game because nobody else outside the state cares about this game.

Beating an FCS team in multiple OT's doesn't automatically qualify you as one of the top 25 teams in the country, sorry.
I agree that some of the fans are going a little overboard on the pessimism, but saying we should be mad about not being ranked.... no way. I believe we are a top 25 team but we certainly didn't look like it. Ben Bruns had the line of the day after the game when he said (paraphrasing) "The motto of this season is prove it. Well they didn't prove anything today." That guy is as bona fide a Cyclone as it gets. We should be disappointed in how they played. They are better than that. I guarantee you all the players and coaches feel that way. If they don't then I would be worried.
Totally agree! Obviously CMC doesn't care if we're ranked or not, so why should we care? If CMC really cared about our ranking, he would have went out and spanked UNI instead of trying to do as little as possible.
Punting on that first 4th and 2 from UNI's side of the field told the entire team that we're not out here to win this game.... we're out here to hope our defense shuts them out and we score a couple times while doing nothing. And passing on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 told the OL that you are garbage and we can't trust you to get one yard against an FCS team. He might be right about that, but that's still not the message you want to send your team.
* Bye weeks in September---drive me fking nuts. Nice (September) weather is fleeting in Iowa . Why push games to November and see our field look like crap?
* Quit bowing to ISU's turf management program, and install an artificial turf system. Artificial turf looks fantastic at night--in november. Ours looks like CRAP in November. High schools are years ahead of ISU in this decision. We have a field that looks good for THREE home games.

Struggling for a half was understandable but a team with the ability to put it away, puts that one away and wins by 20.
Maybe ISU will get there and deserve a ranking but they'll need to at least ascend a bit for this next weekend.

Agree. I also love what CMC is doing, especially the attitude change and faith he has instilled, but I haven't seen anything yet that has me as excited as most on this board.
And 8 win seasons don't really excite me all that much.
Prove It. That's the motto. Barely lucking out a win in 3 OTs against an FCS opponent is proving nothing. Anyone that thinks we should be ranked is delusional.
