Historical opportunity with no downsides

The upcoming game against Iowa provides perhaps the biggest opportunity for isu in decades. The hardwork of the last two seasons is reflected in the top-25 ranking, gameday exposure amplifies this hugely, and the match-up is against the instate rival with big implications for future trajectory of the isu program.

If isu can live up to the ranking by knocking off Iowa this time around, it pretty much imo completes cmc's efforts to rid the program's historical reputation. So I expect cmc has put the off week to good use and will swing boldly for the fences.

Tactically, I expect first half Purdy will play pocket qb taking deep shots against Iowa's thin and suspect secondary (particularly safeties). In the second half, Purdy will transform into becoming extremely mobile against a more fatigued D. Defensively, isu must blitz all game long.

All said, losing against Iowa won't hurt much but the upside to winning is bigtime.

Or another take:

CMC would like to win this game but the 9 conference games and getting to the Big XII title game is what the season is about.

We will see just a bit more creativity on offense than we saw against UNI. CMC believes, rightly so, that our defense will keep this a one score game and that we need to do just enough on offense to have a shot at the end.

Like the UNI game and every other game on our schedule this year, there are two stats to watch -

1) Do we rush for 150+ yards
2) Do we have the same or fewer turnovers as our opponent

If we achieve both of those in a game with our defense, very likely we win the game.

The goal of getting to the title game stands by itself and is not really impacted by losing to Iowa. In other words, if there is a time to swing for the fences, this game provides it. If cmc decides to grind it out and achieves a loss imo is opportunity lost for isu.

I think a win here also sets us up for future recruiting battles with Iowa. They still win too many of the in state kids, especially in the trenches. Losing 4 in a row hasn’t helped. We gotta start winning the battles for kids like Wirfs. A win in this game enables that.

And then a few years down the road we should be getting most if not all of the in state talent. That’s the progression of where we need to go if we are really going to be a major player every single year.

It doesn’t change in a year or two. The biggest issue we have now is that many of the kids coming through have had parents that were tavern hawks under fry. Parents are the big influencers of what kids believe. Until we flip that narrative some, instate will be a struggle.

I had a big hawk fan just a few weeks ago laugh about the game being a sell out because ISU only holds 40 some thousand he said. He was floored when I said we push 62.

That’s BS. Wirfs isn’t picking Iowa because his parents want him to. It’s because they have like 10 dudes in the nfl playing o line or d line and they’ve beaten us too often lately head to head. We have to give these kids a better reason to come here. Owning Iowa every single year will do that along with putting a few of these guys in the league. And it needs to start this year with a convincing ass kicking.

I've heard the same from Iowa fans. For as much **** as they give Nebraska fans, the older Hawkeye fans also still live in the 80s/90s.

Haven't watched Iowa much but their scores would indicate they at least have some identity and ISU looked like they were testing things out vs. UNI.

Not a defining moment for ISU in a win or a loss but getting dominated would be pretty stupid. A win would be fun but Hokdom will be back to their canned stupidity they've been spewing the last twenty years (post-streak ending).

Might have been more defining if it were also the feature ABC night game but it's not.

Your comprehension is poor besides being highly irritable apparently. Reread what I posted without your undies bunched up.
