I remember when they were down from the tip top lounge on the other side of the street. Tremendous food back then-

The product and service was good because the old man was there in person watching to make sure it was. If these guys are just investors, it won't be the same after six months.
Tough place to do so. Increase the prices and you throw your only competitive advantage out the window. Suddenly you have less customers so your cost per plate rises but the building and parking lot are still the same fixed costs.
No one that I know is going to Hickory Park for great food. It's a great value. Increase the price and it hurts the value. Decrease the quantity of food and it hurts the value.
There was one on Merle Hay by the interstate in DSM, but they named it something different. Same food, same sauce, but it failed pretty quickly.
I was just there and commented how, if I were the owner, i'd be counting my money and not continuing to walk around there...BUT, probably why it's continued to be great.
I haven't read the whole thread, but wonder what the sell price was?.....
Jimmy’s BBQ in Boone is run by a guy that used to work at battles. It’s damn good and the closest I’ve found to the original Battles. My buddy and I had a rotation of battles and Great Plains for lunch back in high school. I miss being able to eat like that and not have it hit the waistline.
I mean it doesn’t have to be fine dinning or anything. Good solid food for cheap is a good deal.I swear, reading these threads on CF about food/restaurants in Iowa, you’d think the only thing that matters is the price of the food and how cheap it is.
Apparently, as long as it’s cheap, it doesn’t matter what you’re eating.

I'd take pretty good cheaper food over really good more expensive food about 99% of the time.I swear, reading these threads on CF about food/restaurants in Iowa, you’d think the only thing that matters is the price of the food and how cheap it is.

Agree, it would be interesting to know how many millions he got for a business that the majority here believe just serves average food.

I also have zero knowledge of the food business and I'd estimate it's worth no less than $1 billion. There's no way that business is worth "many" millions. Not a commentary on the food, the ownership, or anything. Just can't imagine the financials would justify a valuation of that much, esp in a high-risk sector like a one-off restaurant.
I'd guess somewhere like $1-3M, but that is based on my guess of their financials based on my zero knowledge of the food business.![]()

The DSM Register had an article saying that the land and building alone is worth 3.6M so I would expect much more than 1-3M.What are their sales like? If they are doing $3-4M in sales, which they could be doing, they could sell for more than $1-3M.

No kidding. You and every other Iowan.I'd take pretty good cheaper food over really good more expensive food about 99% of the time.
Sorry I'm not some lame food snob, what's your Instagram where you post pictures of the food before you eat it so I can follow? No kidding. You and every other Iowan.
