Is Iowa's QB play really much improved?

This game doesn't really come down to our defense vs their offense. We can/will hold them to the 10-16 point range.

The issue is if we can score more. Last week's game plan will not cut it.

If we hold them to 16 points or under and manage to lose at home I will never post here again.

And my last post would be questioning Manning's position here.

Wont happen

Stanley showed zero touch with the football on anything longer than 15 yards. Honestly, his stat line is fairly deceiving and my Hawk friends said the same thing on Sunday.

I think Stanley threw the two fade routes for TD's pretty well actually. I think overall he played a solid game and to be fair, this was his best opening game performance he's ever had.

Now, I will say that none of his TD's were unbelievable throws, nor were they tough, but Iowa rarely puts Stanley in situations for him to have to make those throws.

. On a related note, perhaps Stanley took the ribbing he receives on this site to heart 'coz he's apparently lost some weight.

Then why did he stay in the pocket and throw at least one or two out of bounds for intentional grounding? Is it his footwork or his big-boned frame?

Thought he looked pretty decent. Made one bone headed play. Had a few ball placement issues but the fade routes for TDs were perfectly thrown. Question will be whether ISU can get consistent pressure on him.

Also as others have mentioned, don’t think Iowa is going to score a ton so this game will come down to what ISUs offense can do or who wins the TO battle.

Probably going to be hard to get much useful insight from the Miami not from Florida game. He was pretty vanilla and did what he needed to do while knocking some rust off. Overall, I'd say some improvement.

The biggest thing might not be a passing improvement, but a complete change in his game style. We saw a few glimpses of the running ability, which some in the Hawkeye camp have indicated might be stressed much more this year. There has even been talk of installing a nickle and dime option system, a la 2007 Pat White/Steve Slaton. You heard it here first.

Lol he's a dual threat guy now!

i think if we make them one dimensional it will help our cause more than anything. Stanley did most of his damage last year against Minnesota and Indiana, but he also had 5 games where he failed to throw for 200 yards. Interestingly, Iowa went 5-0 in those games. If Stanley needs to put a team on his back, that’s when he struggles.

He carried the offense in the bowl game against Miss State. He also did it in 2017 in Ames. He and Wadley were the difference makers in that game.

I watched about half the game ... he looked very solid and steady at times, and make some great throws. There were also a couple head-scratchers.

So, hard to tell if he was a little improved, or if Miami was just bad. I'd lean 40/60.

That's who he is. That's who he's always been. He's going to have a couple of nice throws downfield, fit a couple into a tight window to a TE, and then overthrow the RB wide open in the flat by 7 yards. He's had more good throws against us than bad, unfortunately.

I'm hoping for a Heacock special similar to what we saw against WV last season. We were bringing pressure in a lot of creative ways. We haven't pressured Iowa's QBs since the McCarney days. Expecting a field position battle similar to last season.

He's had some great games and some games where you wondered how the heck is he the starting QB. Great first game for him to start off the year.

Our fans will always understate an opposing player like Stanley and Iowa fans will always overstate him. Same thing for players on our side.

While I personally dislike Stanley, he's a typical Iowa QB with a decent arm but questionable head.

Stanley scrambling from ISU pressure next week...
