All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

No, I said the staff is very high on Merriweather, and they are.

Told ya so

Kaevon Merriweather was a step behind in his first career start at free safety.

The true sophomore got the nod in a tight position battle over walk-on Jack Koerner. He was late to the ball in what turned out to be a 30-yard completion to Luke Mayock, then gave up a 20-yard touchdown reception to Andrew Homer in the fourth quarter on a ball that was thrown up for grabs.

This was the position that defensive coordinator Phil Parker seemed most concerned about leading up to the season. Better to take some lumps in a win than a loss. But now we know why Parker was worried.

It wasn't just Merriweather. Overall, Iowa's secondary definitely showed some inconsistency.

Dumb. Merriweather was a step late on one throw. The TD he “gave up” was good coverage, the QB just made a perfect throw and the receiver a great catch. Merriweather also made a couple really nice open field tackles. His play was actually rather encouraging last night.

Iowa fans January 2020:

"Yeah well we'll see how good Purdy is without Jones"

This was actually a pretty perfect example of what many Iowa fans expected to happen with Butler gone. If yesterday is any indication, Iowa State lacks playmakers at WR that can make plays downfield, and Purdy lacks the arm strength to fit the ball into tight coverage downfield without Butler’s freakish abilities. Iowa State’s offense is going to have to dink and dunk its way downfield.

Spears is one of the best 3 LB’s, Anthony Johnson is one of the best DB’s.

Holy **** that stupid ************ didn’t have Marcel on his list?

That alone should tell everyone how little dan knows. I mean its obvious he is a loser, but he’s stupid too.

So Chad, the biggest Hawkeye homer alive said the secondary wasn't good but you think they were good? Lol!

Wait Purdy lacks arm strength? Since when?

So the secondary didn't look good but Merriweather looked good. If that's the case who played bad in the secondary?

The secondary was ok. A few miscommunications and misplays on passes led to some chunk plays, but Miami’s QB also made some perfect throws. The miscommunications and misplays are teachable, so not worried about it.

So who was bad in the secondary? Like what specific players?
