With this last 8am update from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian has been upgraded to Category 5 with 160+ MPH winds.

The center eye is expected to pass over Grand Bahama which is about 100 miles north of New Providence Island/Paradise Island where Nassau and the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament is.

Those southern islands are currently forecasted to have over 24 hours of tropical storm winds (39-73MPH but likely on the lower end) with gusts higher as the storm stalls. The resort is on the worst side for storm surge as well, which is expected to be 15 feet in Grand Bahama but I haven't found anything about New Providence or Paradise.

Obviously a sports tournament isn't a priority in all this but thought people might want to know the impact. I would say the current likelihood of the B4A being canceled is slim but if you were planning on doing anything in the north islands during your stay, those would probably be canceled.

Didn't they move the Puerto Rico tourney to Florida after the storm a few years ago? I'm sure if anything happened, thats what would happen here as well.

I believe they moved it to Myrtle Beach.

Also this is a weird coincidence. We've had 3 years in a row where the place we were going had a hurricane. Most shocking was Hawaii's first in a few decades though it didn't hit much land.

New Providence island (Nassau) went total blackout at 4am this morning and still isn't 100% up. The hotels have their own power stations and generators I imagine but just saying that this is still a big deal to Nassau

Based on damage throughout the islands. I would doubt any tournament will be held there for quite some time. The facility, if still intact will probably be used for shelter for the many homeless.

Battle 4 Atlantis is in Nassau and in quite possibly the worst environment ever as it is literally just set up in a hotel ballroom.

The tournament will be held. The Bahamas isn’t small, it covers thousands of square miles and Dorian went around and didn’t hit Nassau.

Nassau is currently suffering from widespread flooding from the outerbands of Dorian.

Atlantis and Baha Mar have discussed no damage to the resorts but lots of cancellations and issues of employees getting to work because of the flooding.

I doubt they'd use these hotels as homeless shelters since these will be their main economic drivers when it comes to tourists

They will. The country as a whole isn’t devastated. Some islands are but it’s not like Puerto Rico which is essentially one big island. Stop worrying.

In fact the Prime Minister and the Minister of Tourism said to please please keep coming to Nassau as that's the main economic driver of the country.
