Oliver Martin Derangement Syndrome

Glad the kid can play. I'm all for any decision that gives the power to the kids in this situation. Plus I'd rather beat them with everyone available.

I understand the wishful thinking, thing is Michigan's passing game was garbage. They averaged 215 yards a game in the air which put them at the 80th spot in the country - it's not like he was stuck behind a bunch of world beaters in Ann Arbor.

Michigan has at least three WRs better than any WR on Iowa State’s roster. Donavan Peoples-Jones, Tarik Black, and Nico Collins were all big time recruits and are really good players. They were all three in the same recruiting class as Martin.

How many all conference WRs on their roster?

And they were all ahead of Martin... Hence the transfer.

Is this Oliver Martin really that good? Just pulled up some highlights from high school and didnt look better than Matt Vanderberg who I thought was really good. Petteway looks far and away the better receiver for this year at least as a comparison. Seems like a lot of hype simply because he is a transfer.

Is the group think centered around the fact that the kid is coming from Michigan? I don't think that factors too far into his ability.

Campbell took an OL grad transfer from Michigan, that kid lasted three days before he realized he didn't stand a chance to play and bailed and it's not like ISU's line has been a strong group in recent years.

I am going to guess he is.

Otherwise, there wouldnt be about a half dozen ISU posters running over here trying to tell us how he isnt any good within 30 minutes of it being announced he is eligible this season.

It's crazy this kid was able to see the field in his short time there, let alone be penciled in as a starter according to his coach for this year on a preseason top 10 team .

Other WRs from the 2017 Michigan class:

Donovan Peoples Jones - 5*
Tarik Black - 4*
Nico Collins - 4*

Wow.

*Edit - someone beat me to it. Sounds like it's pretty common knowledge this guy was competing with some real talent over there.

We're going with it's "10x's tougher to see the field as a WR at Iowa State than it would be at Michigan"? I hate Michigan, BUT.....C'MON

Michigan didn't even have an All Conference WR the two years Martin was there and he still couldn't see the field

I think we can all agree he immediately becomes the best WR on Iowa's roster, which to be fair is an incredibly low bar.

a bit bigger than vandenberg but a step slower. just saying the hype doesnt match. petteway albiet only one year of eligibility looks much better but still not a hakeem butler level. i understand iowa has had major wr woes though so i guess its understandable.

also this is a cyclone board lol. i could understand your point if we were on hawkeye sites which i do regularly post on but dont care to ask this question there.
