"Flight 232" by Laurence Gonzales is an excellent book on the crash, the investigation, community response, etc.

I knew some people involved in the rescue and recovery and it was terrible. And could have been so much worse.

The 2 pilots and the instructor who was running the throttles did amazing. Way more impressive putting that plane down without hydrolics than landing in a river.
