All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

Over 1 spot in the defensive backfield?

Tough to please everyone I guess.

What does your team look like?

QB- Purdy
RB- Sargent
TE- Allen
WR- Pettway
WR- Smith
TE- Kolar
OT- Wirfs
OT- Jackson
OG- Knipfel
OG- Good-Jones
C- Newell

DE- Epenesa
DE- Bailey
DT- Lima
LB- Colbert
LB- Rose
LB- Spears
DB- Hankins
DB- Bickham
DB- Anthony Johnson
S- Stone
S- Eisworth

K- Assalley
P- Sleep-Dalton

I moved JGJ to guard to get the best 5 at OL. You were right though not a lot of proven commodities at 3rd LB and I went Bickham based on having the most experience playing at a useable level.

What DB for ISU should be on and which Iowa DB would you take off?

Agreed on the 4th DL spot. The top 3 are clear but I could go a lot of different ways on that final spot.
Braxton Lewis is good, but he’s not better than Eisworth or Stone so I understand that.

It’s Anthony Johnson that I would have on there. He was good as a freshman, and is in position for a really good year at corner.

Antony Johnson was a stud last year

On a non trolling note. Who's Iowa's back up center in case Linderbaum goes down? I know ISU has had Downing taking some snaps in case Newell goes down

Almost certainly Banwart would move to center. He’s supposedly been dinged up but that’s probably what would happen.

Interesting you have a 7/4 advantage to ISU on both offense and defense. I dont think the talent gap is that far apart on either side.

Honestly, I have never heard of Bickham.

There were a lot of close calls on positions so I don’t think there is a big disparity.

Bickham is a grad transfer DB from Rice, that started a ton of games for them and was one of the best CBs at pass breakups. Honestly I like what I have seen from Datrone Young better but I was trying to base my team off of actual production instead of opinion.

Your love affair for Stanley is still going strong Benjamin

Why do you only list 1 running back and 3 receivers? I think pretty much every all-american type team out there has 2 RBs and 2 WRs. Except the Big 12 which I think lists 13 starters on both sides of the ball.

QB baffles me. Return Specialist I would put Kene.

Smith-Marsette was 2nd in the nation in kick return average last year, won the Big Ten returner of the year award, is on multiple preseason All-American teams as a returner, etc.
Fair enough. Except if you are going to use that logic for Kickoff Returns why not quarterback? Do the numbers only matter regarding kickoff return specialists?

Because there are a lot of different factors that go into QB play- scheme, supporting cast, quality of opponents’ defense, etc. Those factors are much less relevant for special teams play.

So Stanley had two top 20 draft picks he was throwing jump balls to, a way better OL and played a weaker schedule so tell me again why you think he's better than Purdy

Not at all, and if you would take a second to try and think objectively, you know that I am right. There are a lot of different factors that can affect a QB’s performance and statistics- there are much fewer for return specialists.
I agree you are moving the goal posts.

I agree you are moving the goal posts.

How do I get one of those “dumb” buttons? This is the perfect post for one of those.

If you’re not even capable of having a rational and objective conversation with Iowa fans, then I hope to never see you complaining about the Iowa “trolls” who post on this website- because you are no better than them.
