All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

Brady Rieff had more sacks last year than Lima has had his entire career. Rieff>Lima
I really don't know why you're getting so upset.. I said Eisworth is better than Stone overall but isn't better in coverage than Stone and you got offended? Also Lima almost had triple the total tackles and actually had more than triple the TFL last year than Rieff. I know you're trying to troll but I thought I'd bring up some facts.

Just proving that defensive stats don't tell the whole story. Obviously Lima is and has been better than Rieff. Desmond King had a great Senior Year, but wasn't rewarded for it because no one threw his way so he couldn't really get stats. Defensive stats can be very misleading one way or the other.

ISU's Dline wasn't as good as Iowa's last year either so that has something to do with Eisworth accumulating tackles at the safety spot. Plus maybe he allowed more passes to his man for completions and thus more tackles.

Not saying any of that is all the way true, just showing you how using pure stats to compare defensive players can be very misleading. Football isn't baseball in that you can't quantify everything that makes a player good or not.
ISU’s DL was quite comparable to Iowa’s, maybe a notch below. Not sure what that has to do with Eisworth’s tackle total.

He gets downhill as quick as I’ve seen, and his play recognition is outstanding.

That’s why he racks up tackles.

I understand what you're getting at.. However Eisworth had those statistics on the number 1 rated defense in the Big 12 last year. So it's not like he was making all of these tackles in the secondary. A lot of them came when he was rushing the QB and making tackles while flying up in the flats.

Tallest midget?

ISU's defense held almost every single team under their ppg average and their ypg average..
I wasted "some" time since I was curious.

Iowa and ISU held all major opponents below their avg except for two times. (ISU let OSU and KSU, and Iowa allowed PSU and Minnesota score more)

Iowa was the 8th best scoring defense which was second in the Big 10 behind 5th MSU.
ISU was the 30th best scoring defense which was top in the Big 12.

Big 12 Avg rank of scoring defenses: 70th
Big 10 Avg rank of scoring defenses: 53rd

ISU played the 1st, 10th, 14th, 16th, 24th, 36th, 39th, 68th, 95th, 108th, and 111th Best scoring teams. (Avg 47th best scoring teams)
Iowa played the 23rd, 40th, 47th, 52nd, 54th, 57th, 75th, 77th, 80th, 84th, 92nd Best scoring teams. (Avg 61st best scoring teams)

ISU gave up 22.8/game against an average scoring offense 47th, with a high of 1st and low of 111th.
Iowa gave up 18.1/game against an average scoring offense 61st, with a high of 23rd and low of 92nd.

ISU ranked 30th in scoring defense against a higher scoring conference and bowl opponent. Iowa ranked 8th against a lower scoring conference and bowl opponent.

ISU kept opponents a total of 88.9 points below their avg across their 11 major games.
Iowa kept opponents a total of 98.4 points below their avg across their 11 major games and

Head-to-head:
Iowa kept 75th best scoring team, ISU, 23.8 points below their avg in the first game of the season.
ISU kept 39th best scoring team, Iowa, 17.6 points below their avg in their second game of the season.

Was ISU as good as Iowa defensively? Not in scoring defense without the weight of their opponents played. Was ISU a good defense? I think it's safe to say they were very good.

Really good info, thanks for looking all that up.

ISU about 6th if they were in the B1G, hard to argue with that.
