Iowa Football Recruiting

Then what's the point of putting "you won't take visits to other schools once committed" on the official offer? I literally cannot figure that out.

I have no idea, but have heard the coaches always encourage any of the players they recruit to always going on as many visits as they want before committing and they usually won't take a commitment unless that recruit has visited Iowa.

The funny thing is, most of us wouldn't have even paid any attention to this of Brian hadn't ranted.

Probably not, if he is up front with the coaches before doing so. I'm guessing he will go for a visit at some point. Seems like a lot of teams are still after him and for good reason.

Rule #1 is you can't visit other schools officially or unofficially though. It says nothing about talking to coaches first or anything like that

I think that is put there so that the commit knows that he should be 100% committed if he is going to commit. The coaches are letting the player know, that if he would still like to take other visits, then please do so before committing. Obviously they have been flexible with it, but for the most part they want the recruit to be 100% comfortable with committing before doing so.

Here's what I don't understand about it. If it's a rule that is used for some players but not for others, why have the rule? I don't know how a 2 or 3 star would feel if he's not allowed to visit a school like Arizona State or Kentucky after he committed, but some 4 or 5 star who wants to visit tOSU or LSU is allowed to.

Do you think every player, certainly every recruit are treated the same? Really? Are you naive enough to think tha Purdy is treated the exact same on ISU as a fourth string tackle?

I remember that Iowa was recruiting Chris Leak at about the same time they were recruiting Drew Tate. Leak was much higher rated and came in on a private plane. Tate flew commercial.

I think that's sort of an apples to oranges comparison regarding Purdy. He's already on the team and the hierarchy is already set. Two recruits in the same class, one gets to go on visits, one doesn't. I'm saying I could see some recruits getting upset about it that's all.

So instead of just telling them up front they have to be 100% committed to actually commit they put a rule out there and pick and choose went to enforce it based off how good the kid is? That's weird

That’s football. Everyone is treated fairly, but not all are treated equally. You think the seniors in camp have to do the ********* the freshman have to?

Yes, we get it. You think because we're questioning Iowa's recruiting philosophy that we're just so torn up about it. None of us are. We're making fun of it. Sorry that's been lost on you this whole time.

Lol sure. Keep telling yourself that.
